    "A well regulated Militia . . . "

well regulated = controlled by strict laws. note it doesn't say "somewhat regulated" or "loosely regulated" . . . it says WELL regulated.

    Militia

    1. An army composed of ordinary citizens rather than professional soldiers.
    2. A military force that is not part of a regular army and is subject to call for service in an emergency.
    3. The whole body of physically fit civilians eligible by law for military service.

\Mi*li"tia\, n. [L., military service, soldiery, fr. miles, militis, soldier: cf. F. milice.] 1. In the widest sense, the whole military force of a nation, including both those engaged in military service as a business, and those competent and available for such service; specifically, the body of citizens enrolled for military instruction and discipline, but not subject to be called into actual service except in emergencies.
    -------------------------------------

Clearly, the Constitution states that unless you are a member of a well regulated Militia, your right to own a gun is not guaranteed. How many of you know of people in a Militia??

Well, the constitution never explicitly states that only those in a militia can have a gun.

It simply says that "We are allowing people to have guns, because we need a militia of citizens"

I know quite a few people in a militia (US Army), but oddly enough, none of them own guns of any kind....

There was a reason for it at the time to them... this was 229 years ago. It can be compared to a law in my town where it is illegal to wash a donkey/mule on the courthouse steps after sundown. :D

It could also be compared to the law that prevents blacks from voting in the state of Florida.

Yep. I, personally, am in favour of gun control but I also believe in a rigourous interpretation of the constitution. And speaking of the constitution, there are several things that are outdated and need to be amended. The second amendment is one of them.

By not thinking about it and having it purge itself from your memory?

How would you know someone intends to do you harm? You're not gonna shoot on every person that walks towards you and doesn't look like a puppy!

And I don't think violence for violence is a solution.
