Awesome! That will reach farther than feeding just those homeless people who share some of the parks with the Occupations. I know many of the OWS locations have been sharing their meals with the homeless in the parks.
Unfortunately, all these things are part of the topic... the 'why' people are rising up and prostesting is part of the point and one of the most common questions... These conversations, are all tied into the 'why'.
and you are entitled to your opinion about it. What you call personal opinion, I call my observations of what unions have done to those below the middle class. I am well aware that some in the middle class don't like to accept that there are those worse off then they are, that is part of the imbalance that we must fix within the 99 itself.
Today, Occupy Minneapolis protesters tried occupying with tents inside of a bank and in the middle of an intersection. "http://minnesotaindependent.com/90348/seven-occupy-protesters-arrested-in-minneapolis-u-s-bank-protest"
They are hard to get into. When ever I ask, which is a lot, how can I get on full time w/auto company? I hear, "my brothers friend is friends with a union official, yada, yada,..." Or you have to be a veteran. They get picked for union jobs over everybody.
Good point. Where the hell is my 401k anyway. LOL That's sad one doesn't have physical location to go to talk about life savings and retirement fund.
Man, that's a tired old quip used by pro-capitalists to divide the workers. As I said earlier, "those type of jobs are outsourced". Union workers work their ass off behind machines and on assembly lines. Attendance policies are draconian. It's hard work being a auto worker anyway. I see and talk to them and it's not like it used to be. TARP loan requirements had like 600 items that management and union had to change and follow.
Divide workers? When you have one group of workers making significantly more, on the basis of union or non union membership, the seperation is already there... which is why I said it is something that has to be balalced and worked out in the 99%. There is nothing that justifies the discrepency in pay between union wages and minimum wages. If you think a union is such a good thing for workers, then why not have everyone unionized? It is one or the other... either all workers should be unionized, or they all shouldn't. If the basic rights of people were being met, there would be no need of a union to fight for them... that they only fight for their members creates an inherent imbalance.... Pointing it out, is not creating it.
Have everyone unionized. Now you're talkin'. Surely you're not suggesting that to lower the wages of those that have fought the good fight ,to that of minimum wage/non union workers would be an effective and fair way to deal with this. Union organizers and members have paid in blood over the decades to get good wages and benefits. Yes ,the basic rights of people are not being met and it's not the unions fault. Look to the owning class--their actions brought unionism on themselves. There have been and are still reasons for workers to form unions and they are the same reasons as there always have been. More people need to unionize against unfair labor practices. After all, people would not have had to have organized if there wern't damn good reasons. It was/is for self defence aginst being taken advantage of.
lol, as I said, I agree with most of that... with the exception that they are good for all as they are.
Operation Occupy Facebook - make pages for small towns where people haven't woken up yet. Here's one for all you who want to get involved who hate facebook.... Pick a random town that doesnt have an Occupy page on facebook, make one, post updates to it until someone who supports it joins and transfer it to them.
Things got a little crazy as Occupy Melbourne Australia was evicted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPbcAd-d-tw"]Shocking Police Behaviour OccupyMELBOURNE! - YouTube
As I've stated before, I think the "Occupy" Movement is great but lacks focus. It was born in mid-September according to its website, but has already peaked and dropped off. It had no staying power. A few weeks ago it was a nightly topic on the news; now it's not even a footnote. It would be great if a leader stepped forward to take it to the next level, but that hasn't happened.
