My name is Kalanu. Here's the deal. It's not really a new plan, and it's not even a new idea, but this summer the Gypsy Theatre Caravan is actually going to happen. I hope no one minds, but I had to scrap almost this entire post. Plans have been changing, streamlining perhaps you might say, and so I wanted this thread to stay up to date. I have a vision for a travelling radio play, and given a different set of circumstances (which might even at some point come about), it would be simple to pull off and brilliant. But I'm a lone nomad again, and I no longer have the vehicle (and trailer and gear, etc) that would have made it simple. But now it's even simpler. BobbinBecca has offered a play, and I'll be looking at it when I get to West Yellowstone to sit with the Buffalo. (www.buffalofieldcampaign.org). So, to make a long story short, I'll be at the Ocala gathering, and will be singing the heartsong there, and seeing what happens to the idea. I think if I keep my ambitions simple (which is easy when I'm on the road), it will develop organically a community project. So here's the vision now. We travel from venue to venue this summer, perhaps pre-booking, perhaps just showing up and finding a place to set up our little circus, keeping it rainbow but keeping it sane enough to be inclusive, dishing out the play, music, performance art, etc, making it a (mostly) comfortable evening out for people. At a later date I'll ramble on about why I think it has to be like that, but I'll spare you for now. Accomadations will be camping in the National Forest (if that hasn't been made illegal by then http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=707370&postcount=10) and whatever private land we can arrange. The hardest part admittedly will be getting the play written. But that's where making it open source comes in. I've been all over Canada and the U.S. and particularily in Canada people want to join a theatre caravan. Another idea I had for the play: In act one the group is headed towards a city or town, one that they know exiles go to, but by the time they get there in act two, they have become a tribe, and do not want to separate. But being in that city means that they have to, so.... back on the trail with them. if enough people get involved in this, we can make it on ongoing storyline. which is why when it ends after act four, our nomads will be still on the road searching. This could be the only play we perform all summer, or we can do it serial style. I'm hoping we have a few good writers committed. I'm committed to recording performances, distributing the disks and streaming it over the internet. That way, people who see a performance in Omaha, can log on the web to hear what happens next. I'm on my way to seek out a soundboard and speakers right now. I also need Linux software to help me record and stream the performances, if anyone knows of anything. All software used during the tour will be open source, of course. hey , blackbird , i'm wondering of the white eagle at dawn ... well , anyway , i once produced radio dramas for public radio and it's nice to bring those thoughts to mind again . over several years we went from simple to complex and back to simple . just now , i think it's good to make the rainbow gift to all and in a most simple true heart way , like unplugged for instance , with a certain goofy faith in loving you high-psy-radio . mmm? cuz then , focusing on content might be the easiest part .
tikoo, I hear ya. SImple often works best, and technology is daunting for many. Important though for this project. Appropriate use of technology is a skill many (who don't choose Ludditism) need to learn. We needn't fear technology. I've dumped all windows software and have moved to Linux. I'm buying used equipment, and a homemade FM transmitter. In this project the ancient will meet the future, and many periods in between. I'm very stubborn, and some ideas I can't let go of. But not all of them.... The medium is the message....
tech is not any fear problem with me , it's something to be sophisticated about and harmony with the message . only then is the medium the message . i'm saying the rainbow message is inseparable from the rainbow life , close to the earth in simplicity . can the medium fit in a backpack ? yes . it could be one good mic , a portable 4-track digital recorder and a 2-track mastering recorder , solar batteries w/charger , periodic access to your net stream ... and people who may live and speak and write and sing at the root , from the springhead , as yaya un-broken people .
Ok, so in order to find peace in the whirlwind that is my life, I need to return to my own country to do this tour. (And to make some money to finance it, doing some Babylon work for Babylon currency) So, the tour will be Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. Come to Canada, all. I can't explain why the radio play format is as important to me as it is. And the tour simply won't happen hitchhiking. We will be SVO (anyone who wants to join the tour with a petrol-vehicle may though), and using tech appropiately, but...and this is important for anyone wanting to join the tour. I am Rainbow, and whatever the message is, it will not be in discord with rainbow message, but it is not a 'rainbow' project. It's more inclusive, and something different than any of us are used to.
it's your peace project , that's ok . peace i'm feeling crazed too but i got no plans tho i try and try so i walk . hope you'll keep on sharing your ideas ... like whatsa you thinking that's different than any of us are used to ? could be something really good , maybe too sensitve for comfort .... bye
Have I mentioned that I need to give up creative control of the content? That means we need a play. Something written for radio or easily converted.
Have you looked at any old Praire Home Compannion scripts? It's copyrighted material, but it might give you some ideas
well ill be damned. i never heard of that before. And it just so happens to be on now on the very station my roommate had the stereo tuned to. That's the magic of radio. I just had to push one button, and there it was...
I actually started to edit all my posts in this thread to reflect the change in plans, but I figured it would make everyone elses posts seem inconmprehisible, so I've changed changed the first two. I'm going to be PMing everyone who wants to be involved and get their ideas for what think such a caravan would look like and where they might want the tour to go. If you have any comments, please post them.
