Hello everyone! I'm a newbie on this site and I joined because I have a serious interest in joining a commune. I would really like to stay in the N.Cal/Central Cal area but wouldn't dismiss any good opportunity, as long as it was in a moderate climate. I have spent several hours the last few days trying to get info on California communes, and without a whole lot of success. I am all ears and would appreciate any and all input that you would like to share with me...PEACE!
www.ic.org but i can tell you for a fact that most of the ones listed don't exist... have you tried www.wwoof.org ? might be a better way to "break-into" communal life.
Boogabaah is right, ic.org is the place to go. And lots of the communities there are either forming - trying to get it together - or gone, so you will wind up doing some digging. The failure rate among new communities is pretty high. You might check out the Oakland Morehouse - it has been a commune since 1968, I lived there for three years before I moved to Lafayette Morehouse in April. The Morehouse community has a whole process that helps people get acquainted with communal living and they teach courses about it.
the main problem with IC is they'll let anyone put a community on there.. without checking to see if it is REAL.. and once it's on there.. you can NOT delete it.. i know 3 separate people that have put their "commune" on there and they don't even have land or other people.. :frown: george has a good idea.. communal houses. there's plenty of them about!
Holy FUCK! Sign me up for the Lafayette Morehouse! Look at what "courses" they teach there... http://www.lafayettemorehouse.com/course.html#fos The ol' "Two-hand-Do"... what fun! Looks like there are still hippies among us! :2thumbsup:
I think I have found where I want to go, and I'm ready to leave yesterday... http://www.sacred-circle-farm.org/index.html
