Hi. I have a few questions. I'm sure they have been answered before but I don't know how to search the forum other than page by page. Ok so I started my dreads two days ago. All I did was backcomb. No wax. But my roots are bad. They aren't knotted at all. And there are loops sticking out of the knotted part. It makes my head look weird. Is there any way to fix this or is it normal Will it work it's self better over time? Or should I just comb it out and start again? When is a good time for beads or wraps? Oh and is backcombing a good method for dry hair? I hear most people twist and rip, but that sounds like it would really damage your hair. I know im asking a lot of questions, but any help would be amazing. Thank you so much.

you dont have dreads, you have backcombed sausages
the roots will never be 100% knotted
    loops are natural, and good
    weird head is good
    it will make itsself better
beads & wraps prevent movement, but are good to aid congos
backcombing is fine, just dont do it again or anymore
your 'dreads' will fall out, its natural
    theyll tangle themselves back
    chill

beads are good to help keep things in place if your sections start to fall apart, and they definitely make it more fun in the beginning if youre feelin sorta funny about the way they look. i'd wait to wrap any for a while yet. both twisting and ripping and backcombing are damaging. stay on the no wax route and embrase the loopy crazy goodness of your baby dreads :)

Thank you guys so much. I think I read the FAQ before I did them and forgot about it. Thanks for the link. You all helped calm my freakout. I almost brushed them all out.
