I just have a few questions about Salvia... first off, what is the difference between salvia and sativa? also, what are the effects of salvia? i always assumed they would be like weed, because they are also a herb, but i have a feeling i'm wrong... how long does it last? what is it like? what happens? Also, is it legal in Canada? i know this shop that supposedly sells salvia and sativa here where i live, so i'm assuming its legal (not that i really care to much if its legal or not ) but, if it is legal, is there age limits to buying it? like cigarettes and alcohol? Because i'm only 17, so will they not sell it to me? But i don't plan on buying or consuming salvia yet, not for a while... maybe when i'm a bit older and ready, i don't want a bad trip, probably when i'm 18 or so i'll try it, plus i can't really get there to buy it on my own until im 18 anyways
Salvia Divinorum is an extremely potent short acting hallucinogenic/disassociative plant. The experiecne lasts about 5-10 minutes, the real deal Salvia trip is nothing like weed. Sativa is a type of cannabis. A real solid dose of Salvia is most comparable to DMT but the trip feels quite different. Many people seem to report a pulling or pushing sensation called 'salvia gravity' and visually you can completely lose touch with consensual reality and perceive being surrounded by fractals, integrated into machines, living your life as inanimate objects, meeting spirits and entities and various otherworldly phenomena. Many people don't find Salvia all that pleasant and it is extremely effective at producing ego dissolution but it can be a very powerful experience. A common effect of Salvia is that people tend to try to get up and walk around without being aware of doing so, so a sitter is recommended, also motor coordination is somewhat impaired. Lower doses tend to produce lighter hallucinogenic effects and often giggling fits, the amount required to experience lower dose effects compared to breakthrough higher dose effects is small and the breakthrough trip is so much more intense, that I don't really see the point in trying to work the dosage up. It seems easier to lower the dose to where you feel comfortable with Salvia and plus the breakthrough experience is beyond anything you could ever imagine going into it. I'm not sure if it's still legal in Canada, buying standardized extracts over the net is the most worthwhile investment in Salvia.
not salvia is not illegal right now in canada yet if you think you are going to take it to get high. you are sorely mistaken as it will beat the living crap out of you. It takes you to a different dimension
You will not enjoy this. It will not get you high. It's a powerful tool. It's valuable, but not fun. There's a lot of "sativa"s, but it usually would mean, in this context, Cannabis sativa, as opposed to C. indica or C. ruderalis. I expect that your headshop has something like wild lettuice that may also have sativa in the name, it's a very common scientific name in the plant kingdom, and advertising it as such would be an easy way to pull in stoners.
heh it's funny because i just answered a similar question in another post, but i'll use my experiences to try and help you out. salvia is a POWERFUL hallucinogen. i've taken a number of natural and synthetic hallucinogens and i believe this to be (easily) the most potent... and for that matter downright terrifying. the trip lasts a very short period of time and goes away about as quickly as it comes on. this is the only hallucinogen that can make you feel as if you're in a different dimension, will make you think you're not in any situation close to what you're really in. Examples: i've done it thought i was playing in the plasma of the sun even though i was in the back seat of a crown vic. i once thought i was trapped in a dark closet, even though i was in a living room full of people in the middle of the afternoon. it's like goes right from reality to a dream without falling asleep. it's a literal detachment from reality
GB pretty much summed it up. But sativa is not to be confused with salvia, it is just a type of marijuana bud. Good stuff tho, so don't pass it up haha So salvia is -from what I've read- closest to DMT in effects, and methods of intake. Though, it is very distinctly it's own thing. DMT hits fairly quickly, but you have a slight ease in knowing that it is about to take effect as sound has some weird effect. salvia is known to hit even as soon as the smoke still is in your lungs! As you exhale you can already be taken on a deep salvia trip. Salvia is taking like marijuana and smoked through either some type or piece or bong. You can also chew the leaves for a slower hit and longer lasting move of eefects. Though it is commonly smoked. The trip doesn't last too long compared to most drugs, but it is by no means recreational. A sitter is highly suggested as you will loose sense of reality completely, what you will experience is entirely unknown, but it will be in another world for sure. It is possible to take it alone though. You can take the place of other people, beings, or even Imamate objects. You tend to see some type of "little story" play out, not necesarrily about something, but I haven't heard of anybody having a trip with no "animation" so to speak. You should see some type of movement in the trip, it's not like you'll just be thrown into an empty room for ten minutes. Now personally I find DMT more interesting as I believe it is more sacred and you can learn more from it. But salvia was used as a religious/ceremonial drug before, so I can see some value in it, but you never really know until you try, I plan to try it if I come across it, but I don't plan to search for it like I would for DMT, LSD, or shrooms. Those are my three real interests. Defiantly something to look into tho. Check for trip reports, GB has some good ones.
I have not taken DMT, but I believe this to be a bad compariosn. Just because you lose touch with reality doesn't make the drugs that comparable. Also, DMT has been used in plenty of religions too. Maybe more / longer use than salvia.
you obviously didn't read what I said then... Salvia is can be most related to DMT in effects and in take BUT IS VERY DISTINCTLY IT'S OWN THING I also mentioned how DMT is more sacred...
They're not anywhere near the most related. If you can't figure out why, me explaining wouldn't help. But true to form, I shall try anyways. DMT organizes and assimilates things in your mind, even if you don't see how it's happening. Salvia throws around totally random unrelated meaningless bits of shit. These are not even sort of the same. Because you may not be functional while it's happening does not make them similar in any way that's worth even saying. To answer your rep message, I DO tear down people who are talking out of their assholes to feel better, I feel better because I have intercepted that little chunk of bullshit, and corrected it. I can't stand misinformation, especially from people who are sort of presumptuous and proud about their mistaken stand.
^ Excluding 5-meo DMT which is becoming increasingly rare since it became schedule 1, Salvia is more similar to DMT than any other trip ime. I think Black Lotus post was solid.' Quite different dimensions they take me too though.
Do you mean in terms of leaving reality? Or in terms of HOW you leave reality? Salvia is almost like brutal dissociation. Which is certainly not how I understand DMT to be.
I do not understand the distinction you are making here so if I don't touch upon it feel free to clarify what you mean... DMT tends to have a couple seconds of enchanting type subtle visuals at onset but once the trip gets going, it bombards the mind with imagery at an unimaginably rapid forceful pace. I find DMT somewhat clear headed compared to Salvia most of the time but DMT can be intense enough to make me forget that I'm on a drug like Salvia does. I've had DMT trips where I have gone in for another hit but then forget how to operate the lighter, it's definitely got on top of me quicker than I expected a couple times. I find the salvia trip closer in structure to DMT than to disassociatives like Ketamine or Mxe. Something a lot of people forget, or simply don't know is that Salvinorin A the active hallucinogenic compound in Salvia is almost as potent as LSD, so then think about the doses it's commonly smoked at: People are smoking a drug active in the microgram range at 30-50 mgs usually and at 10x-60x extracts on top of that. That is bound to have some disassociating effects, I often hear even LSD having disassociating qualities at higher doses as well. Pharmalogically the only drug that I have come across that bears any sort of resembalance to Salvia is Ibogaine, and even then salvia's action is much more direct than Ibogaine's, about the same way that DMT's action is much more direct than LSD's. So we are definitely talking about a unique experience here with Salvia Divinorum in every sense.
