http://www.space.com/12731-diamond-alien-planet-discovered-neutron-star.html Is 4,000 light-years far? Anyone got gas money.. Whoever gets their hands on that planet will be set for life! :sultan:
hi justin, I just saw these news in german. Unfortunately it would take more thousands of years to get there since we cant be as fast as the light. If it was possible to get lots of diamond from there I would love to live in a house made of diamond
Finally There Is A Glimmer Of Hope On The Horizon, That GLEN May Eventually Wear A BIG Rock On His Wedding Finger.... Science To My Rescue...:2thumbsup: Cheers Glen.
You probably couldn't sell a rock that big. `Might as well make a house, or a ring out of it.. I was thinking of a truck, myself. :sultan:
I just thought that this would be a good place to post that I believe we are not alone in the universe. I mean don't you think it's such a huge waste of space if we were the only one's alive in the whole universe? Pretty lonely situation if you ask me.
LONELINESS "Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying." - Arthur C. Clarke You might be interested in this documentary that's being made right now: Mayan documentary to show 'evidence' of alien contact in ancient Mexico http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/sep/29/mayan-documentary-alien-mexico
if anyone's ever gonna get it it's gonna be the already super-rich megacorporations. the only ones who have enough means to cover the costs of obtaining such a thing. then, you have to think about how exactly to field that junk (what are the environmental conditions on that 'planet', whether it even supports any kind of technology we have come up with), how to get it back here where its market is, how to get manpower for such a job, the costs of that manpower (what's the current going rate for paying off the entire life of an individual? to get him to give up his life for a corporation). and interstellar transportation costs aren't exactly the cheapest. also, if anyone ever gets their hands on that much diamond, whether on this planet 4000ly from us or somewhere a little less impossible to get to, the price of diamonds is gonna plummet down to the gutter, making it a completely worthless piece of junk that it essentially is.
Hi Justin, I think there is an infinity of amazing things out there, life being just one of those things, for the rest we are not capable of imagining any of it, our senses and brains are way too limited.
The Beatles were right, Lucy in the sky with Diamonds. But yeah, I think extreme density is part of the end of life for a star. As far as being a planet...weird. I don't think life could be supported there though...TOO much density. There are theories going on now that turn theoretical physics on its head about the multiverse. Physicists are discovering that all scientific laws applied to *this* universe, may not necessarily collaborate with those of parallel universes. This makes science itself questionable...is it valid for finding things out or not? Would each one have different scientific methods? Is science not concrete and finite; used to explain things in black and white? Who knows (maybe a whole new thread)...But if planets can be diamonds which make us ask, "what the f*ck?"...infinite parallel universes which defy the laws of science could be possible. I just try to keep an open mind...could our lives exist infinite times? If so, God please help us. heh. just kidding. I think if the universe is in constant expansion and there are billions of galaxies (our solar system being only a miniscule fraction of a fraction of the galaxy we call home) life could exist in all shapes and forms. If our planet's crust was made of diamond, we would search for the dirt buried deep in the diamond mountains and war over it. Ahem...went off on a few tangents there...
