in 1984 by George Orwell, he talks about the society having a way of dumbing down words into two simple words put together to mean a new word. i've recently been thinking how that kinda applies to our society too. for example in my last post i said "freeway on-ramp". an 'on-ramp' is an independent noun in of itself. or like an 'outbox' for e-mail. i was just wondering if you guys can think of more
You mean "newspeak". I think doublethink doesn't have anything to do with this. Doublethink existing today, is like people knowing how trashy celebrity magazines are, and how they don't really care about the people in them.. but cancelling those thoughts out and buying the magazines anyway, telling themselves they find it entertaining. Also, I think there's more to newspeak than just words put together. The point is that if you have good, un-good, doubleplusungood ..etc.. nothing can be "bad". It takes the concept of "bad", away. So I don't think on-ramp or catwalk are examples of newspeak. :]
oh yeah, i just looked up it up, yeah i mean Newspeak. guess my memory of the book isn't that good haha.
