Hiiii! Well, I've lived in Toledo, Ohio all my life, I often hear it is the worst city in the country, so I'm lucky to not have traveled much, I don't know what I'm missing. However, I have grown very depressed here. I feel as though I have very few options after high school. I absolutely do not want to go to college, I'm hoping to save money to travel in a van with my boyfriend to California, then live in it there until we can get a place. But I can't even find a job here so I can start raising money! Anyway, most of the people here are very selfish, cruel, and cold. I dream of living a lifestyle of travel and meeting new, kind people. Wow, I'm REALLY off topic. BASIC QUESTION: What alternative lifestyles are there today? I know it's not the sixties anymore, so we probably don't have too many. Are communes still nice places? Can living in a bus or van still work?

Good news according to the latest survey Detroit, Michigan; Newark, New Jersey; Cleveland, Ohio; Anchorage, Alaska; Buffalo, New York; El Centro, California; Oklahoma City; and Memphis, Tennessee are worse than Toledo, Ohio :2thumbsup:

cleveland is infinitely better than toledo.

OP, are you gay or a girl? i just kind of assumed you were a guy until bf was mentioned, now i'm not sure.

what's wrong with college? it's the perfect opportunity to go to a new place and meet new and alternative people.

I wish I had a van to live in. I would sleep in it all day in the woods so nobody would bother me.

And college is a complete waste of money only serving to make you an indentured servant. Skip that. You ain't gunna miss much.

This country is way over saturated with college degrees and with a declining job market...In short, America is all but finished in terms of its glory days, where Americans thought they were special and the best with relative good reason. This is my view anyhow. Good luck.

I'm a chick:) haha, do I seem mann-ish or something? && I recognize that it is a wonderful place to meet new and different people, but college just isn't for me. I don't want to be stuck in debt for years, and I am not academically-responsible enough for college. It doesn't really seem appealing to me, as much as I hate school.

I've been wandering around the planet for the past decade or so. It's worked out great. I would trade everything I own for an adventure.

Don't be fooled, being professionally carefree is a lot of work.

i really don't know why cleveland gets such a bad rap. it may have high crime and poverty, just like any major city, but it also has a lot of good points, and the greater cleveland area is beautiful. toledo, on the other hand, is literally just a 300,000 person ghetto stuck in the middle of a field.

nah, i think i just assume everyone's a guy unless they post something overtly girly.

i will just point out that college is absolutely nothing like high school, but it sounds like you have your mind made up and that's fine.
