Defend Occupy Wall Street Protesters from Police Brutality! Down with the 1%! Capitalism Sucks!
    By Wolf Larsen
I find myself inspired by the Occupy Wall Street protests. The Occupy Wall Street movement correctly points out that the wealthiest 1% of the population has effectively screwed the American people.
However, this does not mean that I agree with every idea expressed at these protests. In fact, since there are so many people espousing so many ideas this would be impossible. Let us hope that everyone at these protests is free to express their opinions, including those of us who are not interested in the "lesser evil politics" of the Democratic Party, which is every bit as rotten as the Republicans. Let us hope that the Occupy Wall Street movement is not sold out to the Democratic Party.
While I admire the Occupy Wall Street protesters there are those in the Occupy Wall Street movement who appear to be naïve. Many seem to believe that it is possible for the government to reform the abusive practices of the wealthiest 1%. I repeat this is naïve. When both political parties are little more than prostitutes of the wealthiest 1% it is naïve to expect the politicians to stop the wealthiest 1% from screwing everybody else. The wealthiest 1% screwing everybody else is the very nature of capitalism, and American democracy is a democracy of the rich. The American government rules in the interests of the wealthiest 1%.
It is not possible to reform capitalism to make it pleasant for working people. Capitalism is evil for working people, and even worse for those who can't find a job. Capitalism is good for the wealthiest 1%, but it is bad for the majority. Under a capitalist democracy you get to choose which so-and-so is going to smash your unions, but regardless of whether you have a Democratic or a Republican so-and-so in office the working people still get screwed. The only answer is to throw the wealthiest 1%, the capitalist system itself, and both the Republican and Democratic parties into the garbage can. What we need is a workers democracy. We need socialism.
I also want to talk about the nature of the police. The police are the violent thugs of the capitalist government, and they exist to protect the interests of the wealthiest 1%. The same police that are attacking the Occupy Wall Street protesters are also attacking minority men and blue-collar white workers on the picket line. The police are not workers. The police are thugs who beat up veterans exercising their First Amendment rights to protest.
I hope that more and more people will understand that it is impossible to reform the capitalist system to make it work for the majority. Capitalism is only good for the rich and privileged. The only solution is to throw capitalism in the garbage can. The only solution is to confiscate the ill-begotten wealth of the privileged 1% and use that wealth to rebuild our nation. What we need is socialism.
Contrary to right-wing rhetoric Barack Obama is no socialist. And never mind Obama's own populist rhetoric, because Obama is a capitalist politician just like George Bush. Obama has escalated the war in Afghanistan, he has increased military spending, he has increased deportations of immigrants, he has increased the use of the Patriot Act, he has kept in place the war on drugs which is really a war on civil liberties, in other words Obama is no different than George Bush. Let us not forget that Obama gave away hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer money to the very corporations that ruined our economy. Obama is on the side of the wealthiest 1% just like the Republicans.
The working people need their own political party - a workers' party. A workers party would fight for the working people, for the unemployed, for women, for gays, blacks, Latinos, immigrants, religious minorities - in other words a workers' party would fight for all the oppressed.
