What would send you to shoes, even temporarily?

Maybe this is the barefoot version of "would you eat a steak for $1.000.000" but sincerely, I do not mean it to be. I really am curious.

For the hard core everyday bare footers, what situations would have you considering shoes as safety wear?

The question came up after discussion about firefighting, which led to flooding and other disasters.

I'm barefoot almost all the time, even at my office (architecture), but I definitely put on shoes when I visit construction sites. That IS dangerous to be barefoot there. But I also wear them more out of respect around clients and other professionals. But we're a very small office and my co-workers and boss don't really care.

The other time is after yesterday, I walked 3.25 miles around streets near my office, most of them extremely rough old chip/seal asphalt and exposed aggregate concrete. It was too far for me to go barefoot, and now the balls of my feet have rubbed raw. So today I wore my goretex boots, partly because I had to visit a job site in the rain, and also because I wanted a bit of cushion until my feet feel better.

When it gets cold. Last week it was 40 degrees with the windchill so my unbroken 6 months barefooting got well and truly broken. Inevitable around here. Winter is coming.

the cold snap but at least it's only flip-flops, temperatures will have to drop considerably more before I throw in the towel and bring out the closed footwear and even then it'll only be my espadrilles unless it's as extreme as last year and I completely sell my soul to the devil and get the Uggs out ...

I collected my share of shards from bar floors (while painting/dancing/shooting photos) that didn't hurt at first, but did as they worked their way out, and I live in a lovely neighborhood where smash and grab is an Olympic level sport!

Glen, I find it curious that you would rather die than wear shoes. That is bravado, right?

Yep being at work, because convention dictates, not because my job actually needs shoes. Otherwise I'm bf most of the time.

heh and what's ironic, despite my other post today, at the office is one place where I CAN be barefoot most of the day. Boss is cool with it. :2thumbsup:

I am permanently BF unless I'm at school. I'm in school to be and Advanced EMT, and my school requires a uniform. This includes boots.
