If you perform vipasanna meditation for long periods of time, can this cause deformity to your spine and posture and ultimately make on go crazy? Can "hardcore" meditation lead to psychosis?

I highly doubt it...... But then again if one were prone to psychosis anything could trigger it I would imagine.

For every rule someone breaks it. Anything could possibly happen. Why?

I think you should be fine, I meditate for 20 minutes twice a day. I got a special chair for meditating, an egg shape basket chair that hangs from a stand. Very comfortable. Perhaps you should invest in a chair that gives good all round support:2thumbsup:

A differentiation needs to made between who is meditating, and what they are meditating for. There is no lack of internet cites pertaining to cults, eastern mysticism, etc. However, to what degree does the common westerner need to fear meditation, or utilize caution? It is a very valid question, and it seems to have, some very valid answers.

I've had a rethink and decided that, in fact, meditation can be dangerous after all.

To reduce danger, avoid meditating in these places:

    Freeways/Highways
    Sulfur pits
    Volcanoes
    Condemned buildings due for demolition
    Steelworks
Any factory with large or heavy machinery
    Firearms shooting galleries
    Golf driving ranges

There are many more. Anyone got anything to add to this list?
