internet and televison shut down every year in january

I think it would be cool if the internet and television was shut down for 1 month every year. does not matter what month it is. but I think it would be nice if everyone was forced to do something else for 1 month.

 

I think it should be February as it is the shortest month.

I would not miss the TV but the net would be an issue for working. Ok and also for my goof off time.

 

A month without Hip Chat? No thank you

 

It would be nice, but it isn't realistic in todays world.

For those alone at Christmas - and indeed other times without communication links or the comfort of TV fun it put them over the edge.
However,
Nothing wrong with a New Year Resolution for yourself - why not try it - and report back on it Feb 1 ?

 

It only works if everybody gives it up, because then there will be more people to interact with.

Ultimately though, it can be really easy to get isolated and lose any sense of connection with humanity. I think overall it would be so beneficial for society if more people were out in public and willing to talk to new people. That's one of the things I think has been great about Occupy is that a lot of people are rediscovering face-to-face discourse (or so I've read, because ironically enough I haven't yet participated).

 

Now that we use the internet as much as we do it can't just be shut down like that. And even if it could, it's not a good idea. Life goes on; let people live theirs.

 

Shut down the internet for a month and none of the traffic lights would work.... There's a sweet idea.....

Phones wouldn't work either, nor would cash registers..... Need I go on. Everything is on the net in one way or another these days.

 

I saw shut off phones. They are all around annoying and more people might not get killed by some idiot who HAS to send a picture while driving through downtown.

 

yep exactly! Everyone would be forced to do something else so everyone in the suburbs who sits in their house all day would be forced to come outside.

sure this could never happen. but its a random thought. and my random thought is hey I think it would be nice if there was a month like this. u don't have to agree with my random thought just stating my random thought. I don't give a shit about cars or traffic lights. I don't own a car haha. I prefer to walk everywhere I go. heck using the back trails sometimes I can walk some places faster than a car can get to them and I can beat a car almost 100% of the time with a bike in my suburb town. I really don't care about cash registers the futuristic ones or anything futuristic operated by a computer.

lots of stuff was around before the internet and operated just fine.

don't get me wrong I like the computer a lot and use it a lot but I could easily go without it like some people and have gone without it easily cus I go camping lots. and when I go camping I only bring a tent and fishing stuff and some charcoal and some matches and canned beans and sleeping bag nothing to advanced basically.

 

What about people who use the internet as a research tool, and to keep In touch with friends and family? You can't just sever those ties, people do use the internet for more than just porn, you know...

Television has only been around for 60 years and the computer not much longer so it won’t be much of a sacrifice :computer:

Eventually however we’ll become so interdependent on technology that we won’t be able to disconnect from the machine - it will become a part of us.

stuff operated fine before the wheel too, but then once it came around stuff changed such that it would be really hard to go back.
