They were.. the perfect metal band. Their first six albums were pure badassery. I've been on a Sabbath kick lately. I'm a bassist and Geezer Butler is one of my favorites so I've been listening to the songs closer to hear the bass. I realized that Bill Ward is one of the most bad ass drummers ever! Forget Bonham, Peart and Moon.. Bill Ward can fucking play! He is very underrated! Ozzy can't sing too well but his voice is just doomy, especially on the first album. Tony Iommi ... well he wasn't no Hendrix but he is the riff master. The perfect metal guitarist. THE PERFECT METAL BAND!
sabbath were the fathers of heavy metal, any heavy metal after it is just following sabbath's example
They really were!!!!! I was at a festival in 2010 to a concert with a danish mixer team, and i really didn't wanna be there. I was so tired but my friends just kept praying me to go with them. We stood there, waiting for them to go on, when suddenly all the lights went out and everybody went quiet. I then heard this sound of church bells and rain, and a feeling of bliss and utterly surrender came over me. My favourite Black Sabbath song was comming on. At the first stroke of the guitar a crazy light show went on, and the mixing team went on stage and claimed that this song was in honour of the greatest metal band who had ever played on this fantastic festival. I am too young to have ever experienced Black Sabbath in their peak, but this felt pretty damn intense. Peace
Black Sabbath are my favorite band! With all due respect to Jimi Hendrix, I believe Tony surpasses him. Riff wise and leads too. I also think Ozzy's a better singer than most people give him credit for. He's not the most technical but he's unique and great. With that said, Ronnie James Dio was the best frontman for them and with him, they had the perfect line up. Heaven and Hell is Sabbath's best album IMO, with Mob Rules only an inch away. Those two albums have so much dark mysticism and power, not much else compares.
I prefer Ozzy Sabbath but with Dio they added the one element of metal they lacked up until that point which was speed.
While credit has to be given to the original Sabbath for the start of it all . The DIO years were the best of all . I.m.h.o. there is no comparison between the two . The sign of the southern cross of mob rules is amazing . Under Dio the lyrics were dark and top notch . Dio , was the father of dark metal , and set the bar high for all the others to follow . It's just a shame their partnership didn't last . Because it's the fans who got robbed of SO much more of what could have been ! Rest in peace Ronnie , your missed much !
tony is a very solid guitar player, and a really nice english gentleman to meet as well. I have no one fave singer for sabb, they are too varied to have just one voice.
I believe that they are getting back together to make a new album that will be released next year :hurray:
That's what studio albums are for :2thumbsup: I'm glad I catched them live as well though, but yeah, when you get the same shivers when listening the albums you know it's good Nothing beats some Sabbath with Ozzy!
Fuck yeah! Sabbath has been my favorite ever since I was atleast 11, I will never get tired of those guys. I have to thank my father for the good music he passed down to me.
Hell yeah Black Sabbath is by far one of the most awesome metal bands. I also like Heaven & Hell and actually got to see them in concert on their last tour before Dio died. It would be cool to see Black Sabbath with Ozzy, but I get a feeling I've missed out on any opportunities for that.
A great band....some classic, unforgettable guitar riffs, and one of the most unique song intros ever with that "coughing" intro to "sweetleaf".....
Fucking rotten news! It's a good thing they caught it early though. Best wishes to Tony and that he beats this shit.
I must agree. I also like Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. I didnt like Sabotage though. But yea, the first four are the best.
They are one of the best bands I have seen live. Ozzy didnt sound as good as he used to but they were great.
