i think games are getting worse. resident evil for example....i spent days of my life playing RE 1,2,3 and 4 on the PS1 and 2 platforms. i loved the characters, the plot, the sub missions, the game play...everything about them. even when 4 moved away from the zombie element which was a bit of a disapointment, it still contained the basic resident evil set up. i was so excited about 5 coming out and when i started playing the graphics were amazing, but that was it. i just couldn't get into the game anymore. the characters weren't right and the whole idea had kind of got lost somewhere. the plots and ideas suffer for the graphics in my opinion. and no platform can match the snes for just fun game play. yoshis island is still one of my favourite games and has been since i was about 8 i'd imagine. my favourite gaming platforms will always be the snes and the playstation 2 (coz it can play both ps2 and ps1 games), as much as the xbox and ps3 have some good games, such as fallout 3 and heavy rain (fahrenheit creaters, which was also one of my favourites on the ps2), which i enjoyed, i think they are much more limited in terms of originality and creativity these days.
Really, I think most of the best games are either 1) on the DS, or 2) Virtual Arcades/ROMs Though there is the odd occasional awesome game for current gen or flash games..
I think in some aspects you may be right about new games not being as good or complex as the older ones. I still remember playing Super Mario on my family's Super Nintendo and just having a good time with it, where as alot of new games make me wanna tear my hair out sometimes due to their annoying stuff. But there are a few good games even today, personally I think the Elderscrolls game series is awesome and complex enough for me to have to think abit but also fun enough for me to not want to tear my hair out.
On my PC Crysis Warhead F3 las vegas Men of war. men of war assault Farcry2 homeworld 2 oblivion /w extra Il2 1946 Silent hunter 3 Jehrico DA all dlc Halo 1 Dead space HOI 2 armageddon mbee 1/7 th of library I had 1st copy of doom in australia date it i play games Games are better 100 in graphics but WHERE is baldurs gate. :sick2: Don't forget about games with a nonlinear dynamic universe and/or story: Enemy Engaged: Comanche vs Hokum, and EEAVH F16 Falcon 4 Wing Commander series (most of the time, any way) If a computer game has a ridged story, you might as well read a good book, because the playing parts of the game become meaningless. Some modern FPS are exactly the same and are only different in label and occasional tweak in graphics, but then again, you could say resource management games are just spreadsheets with a graphical front end, eg. Train Tycoon.
Graphics have improved , but graphics dont make a krap game good.We get one or two goods titles , or at least the hype tells us so,and rest are substandard to say the least . I have been gaming since the days of Pong so i think i can judge a good game from krap and the only game in the last year that people seem to be getting excited about is Skyrim , i really hope its not another Hellgate:London :toilet:
i can't stand when people say they enjoy old gaming and then turn around and say Counter-Strike: Source is a good game. CS 1.6 exists for a reason. 1.6 is still the only balanced FPS with TRUE hitboxes, challenging gameplay, engaging maps, and requiring skill in my eyes...but then again the last time i played any sort of CAL was years ago and recently all the servers I connected to were garbage. i also suck more now
who knows... i'd say worse but then ask my father and he would say the atari was the best my older brother would suggest nothing beats the nes i am pretty staunch on the original playstation so i can understand why the new generation prefer what we have now it's maybe just a case of enjoying what you're familiar with.
Yea bro for sure, game is wicked sick on all levels. Im hooked on StarCraft 2 and i have not a single complaint. Its so good, i mean really fucking good, chessecake good, pumpkin pie good, blunt and sex good.
After having a month or so of Call of duty MW3 I can honestly say in some cases i8t's gotten crappier, companies riding coatails of past titles, releasing games with crappy net coding even when the MP aspect is whats selling it. It's really one big laggy, glitchy, flawed piece of crap with cool graphics. Hoping it gets fixed but not holding my breath
I grew up on 8 bit games, love the old Arcade games and NES. Check out UBERNES, great emulator and you can post high scores online for many old popular games. I find FPS lame and boring as hell, and people seem to eat it up... enter room, shoot people, enter next room, shoot people, enter next room shoot people... oh yeah, this is fucking amazing! I tried one game, can even remember which one, I had to walk through a field for like 20 minutes to reach a target!? What fucking garbage! Anyone play the new Sonic Generations? Can anyone actually play that game for 3 minutes on a large HDTV without getting a massive headache from the poor blurry ass backgroud scrolling? The GTA's are fun and Burnouts, love crashes and car damage. Car games with no damage are fucking lame as goat shit. I still spend more time playing Ms Pac Man and Donkey Kong. Another thing I hate is games that make you watch 10 minutes of stupid cut scenes or text bubbles before playing. There's only two games I've found worth waiting through this shit for; Conker's Bad Fur Day and Banjo Nuts and Bolts.
Sounds like it's from the Operation Flashpoint family? Thats not so much a game as it is a strategic simulator, based off of VBS1 or the virtual battle system 2 which is used by a number of militaries around the globe for training troops, Flashpoint is just the dummed down / made for civilians version of that. You should look into the Saints Row series, pretty much like the GTA series but mostly like San Andreas with neighborhood takeovers and so forth. :2thumbsup:
Couldnt agree more bud! 1980-1984 was the BEST time for games!! Arcade Atari 2600 Colecovision Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
haha totally true!.... killed all freakin enemies and can't find the elevator to the next level, just walking around through the same doors... ...i loved wolfenstein 3D ... its interesting how we used to have so much fun with such crappy graphics and quite simple gameplay ...just dropped by to say that
I think they have gotten worse. I have the new Call To Duty and I am not really impressed. Why does everyting have to fought in the dark? i would rather they make it more difficult another way than it being so dark you can't see shit.
I dunno. Nostalgia is great but Pitfall and Astrosmash just don't hold a candle to the games we play now. (Though I miss the era of high score challenging my mom. Ah to be a kid again) I tend to think of the 90's as more the peak. Ultima, Doom, Nukem, FF's, the move from MUDS to MMORPGS. Graphics are definitely sexier all around but as others have said, the amount of recycled shlock out there is frustrating and I'd say quality in game play today is generally down. That being said...excuse me, I need to return to Skyrim.
