I have very curly hair, and I rarely comb it to preserve the curliness. Today, I noticed one baby dread forming in the back, and became nostalgic for my old dreadlocks. So yeah, I'm tempted to grow them again, but this time letting them come in naturally instead of going to a shitty hairdresser who has no idea what she's doing. The thing is, people treat me a LOT better with curly hair than when I had dreads. I'm not sure I want to go back to being harassed in the street. Decisions, decisions. I'm not sure why I'm asking here, you guys will probably be a bit biased.
I just got dreads put in (yesterday by my bf twist and rip style) And im already tempted to brush them out! I had long straight hair and im not sure i can handle all this haha. This doesnt really help i guess but i like your hair (i saw a photo once im not creepy stalking or anything ) Good luck deciding
curious to hear about the way that people were treating you because of your hair, if people were harassing you about it that really stinks :/ people around me just really dont seem to care about my hair. the only time i recieved a negative comment was in the city when a woman asked me "if i was some kind of hippy or something" but no one has been outright mean to me so i guess i'm lucky. i think if anyone was though it would influence my decision as well.
Somehow I think the reactions from Montrealers will different from the reactions you used to get back home.
True. Me living in Newfoundland and being one of the few people who didn't conform to the boring mold that everyone else fit into didn't help things. There are a lot more people with dreads here... I even saw a black version of SoaringEagle in the metro the other day! He had really messy dreads down to his ankles, it was pretty metal.
You Have Always Loved Dreads....Now You Are Living In A New City Where They Are More Accepted....I Say "Go For It"...:2thumbsup: Cheers Glen.
just please make sure you don't have that one side different to other thing going again ... otherwise we'll never hear the end of it D
If I did it again, I'd have natural dreads, not shitty salon ones, so that wouldn't be a problem since natural ones aren't supposed to follow a grid pattern, and it wouldn't activate my OCD.
I got rid of mine because Dallas is not the most dread friendly place. I worked in a retail situation and I just got tired of all the comments. like: are you rasta? lol do you wash your hair? are you a hippie? all people with dreads smoke weed. etc. people just automatically assumed they knew what I was like because of my hair. I didn't want people judging me anymore, because being stereotyped is exactly what I don't want. I probably wouldn't have chopped them if I lived somewhere else. I miss them a lot and I wish I still had them. They are as natural as natural gets and I think they are absolutely beautiful. If you want them again, I would do it!
Do it. About people's treatment of you, remember that a lot of what you get is just reflected/magnified from what you're giving off. Don't have a chip on your shoulders about it or anything. If they wanna laugh at someone who's happy, will tell them without being a douche if they actually ask and gently blow them off if they're jerks, etc, that's a lot harder than laughing at someone who's ready to snap and tell you you're stupid because you just don't understand their hair. Not saying you where like that with your hair before. But I'm saying I could feel people strongly reflecting back my mood when I had locks, which was frustrating, because I don't like being treated like shit if I'm lost in thought or frustrated about something..... but still, it's worth considering.
