Frankly, I don't see much innovation, but the music is reasonably well put together (produced) so yeah, skill...:)

There's a lot worse electronic stuff out there.

Pity the poor Blues fan (like moi). I can tune into one, 4-hour Blues program on Saturday nights and that's it. Haven't read all the posts in this thread and dunno if satellite radio offers more options blues-wise or not. But I might have to check it out one of these days because I'm wearing my radio out changing stations. All I hear is crap out there.

That's the beauty of the internet, you can find the music you actually want to listen to. There's obviously a load of horrific bullshit that nobody should have to listen to, but it comes down to how much you want to listen to the good stuff.

I rarely listen to the radio, and if I do it's because my alarm's trying to wake me up...

Honestly, Mainstream music is mainstream for a reason. It sounds the best. As much as we like to be elitists and claim that only intricate meaningful music is good. And complain that Hip Hop and "talentless" music is big right now. You have to admit it "sounds good". I don't listen to it personally because i prefer to be an elitist myself.

I think a lot of it sounds fuckin' awful and I have no idea how anyone could actually enjoy listening to it.

What the fuck is that? Oh... it's my ears being raped by the dry, rough cock of shit music that somehow finds its way into billions of homes around the world.

I'm sure Beyonce's a lovely lady at heart, she certainly looks sexy as hell(she'd look a lot better without some of the stupid costumes these people dream up) and she's got an okay voice... but the end result is awful.

Consider yourself lucky, only thing here is a 1 hr blues show every week on MPR (Montana public radio)....

...late at night sometimes I can pick up CBC on the am dial. I've noticed there are much more lengthy music/art/science programs than I ever hear on NPR

Yeah I know how ya feel, but remember this stuff is dance music,...
ie mostly for girls 12-13 and the boys that like those girls.

It's unfortunate but hey, It's the music of their day, they can't help it.

They probably know nothing about the alternative because no one ever showed them there was one.

Yes, Clear Channel is bad, very bad, bordering-on-evil bad...Every CC stations format is scientifically designed to provide maximum musical appeal to their algorithmically analyzed demographic, using all the tools of capitalist social engineering to direct and re-enforce the hyper-consumerist lifestyle. yup

Here in the west they practically own the airwaves. AM and FM, I'll bet I could count the number of non-Clearchannel stations in my region on Django Rheinhartds left hand...

Yes, I believe Clear Channel has done a lot to make music worse. Back in the day (1970's) we had real DJs who could play whatever they wanted. It was very exciting to listen to FM.

I remember my History of Rock class even, when we were learning about the 50's: there was music that could have been recorded in a garage that became famous overnight. And it's all because some daring DJ's chose to play that on the radio. There were rock 'n roll legends born out of that which the American status quo shunned, but they played it anyway.

And yeah, I've read about 70's FM Radio playing whole albums and about John Peel and everything. It's ironic, now that I think about it. The whole reputation in history FM Radio had with playing album sides and not just "hits". That doesn't exist anymore. Now even the "classic rock" stations just play the same batch of hits over and over and over again.

Why can't they play early Floyd, for example? Or an album side from Jimi? Or a Jefferson Airplane song that's not "Somebody to Love" or "White Rabbit"? Or actual 60's Grateful Dead? Or a band most haven't heard, like the 13th Floor Elevators?

They keep milking the same stuff, while I keep discovering more and more music online from the 60's and 70's that most people haven't heard, and yet could have a wide appeal. There's thousands of hours of music you can find just from 60's psychedelic rock alone. Why should music be limited by its time period and chart performance?

This is not anything new I mean look at all the amazing music that the 60's produced and the hit song was fucking sugar, sugar by the archies. The mainstream has always had dumb terrible taste (in most cases) very occasionally someone like the Beatles will squeak in purely by accident.

Frank Zappa did a pretty good job of summing up the problem in his autobiography, the music industry targets pre teens and teens because of the disposable income. Tweens and teens go entirely by style and popularity (which to a certain extent can be controlled) rather than substance and unfortunately many adults never grow out of it.

Look at Kerouac and Co having to go to jazz clubs to find good music... the good stuff has always been underground. Can't stress this enough music hasn't gotten better or worse, we just filter out the timeless, brilliant music after the fact.

Nope, didn't hear about Payola. It's illegal? Judging by the state of things right now they do it all the time.

(And Limp Bizkit are abysmally bad.)

i'm new here. let me just say that it is so nice to see intelligent responses to my post.

imo, you have to be blind to not see what Clear Channel did to radio and media in general.

to me their radio stations play "commercials" 24/7. that isn't music that you're hearing. it's a 3:30 minute ad.

radio was my life growing up. here in Detroit we actually had some real good rock stations and i enjoyed being a part of that. i hate Clear Channel with a passion.

It really was...FM quality was the best your average consumer could get, mostly 'cause no one could afford the turntables and cartidges the stations used to play those records.

I was trippin' on mescaline the night "Wish You Were Here" premiered on the ultra layed-back, then fledgling Rock station, KFML in Denver.

that midnight they played the entire album non-stop...

It was one incredibly profound musical experience. :bigear:

    Clear channel sucks donkey dink!!

So tight with thier music streams its not funny..... THEY ARE SO WORRIED ABOUT SOMEONE OUTSIDE THE USA LISTENING THEY FORCE EVERYONE TO LISTEN TO THIER CRAP ON THIER SITE USING THE LATEST GARBAGE!! (Even though thier server doesnt let anyone OUTSIDE THE USA connect to thier streams anyway so they have NO REASON to make it so hard to listen!!!!!!)

They are the most stubborn pieces of crap i have ever tried to deal with!
