I was living in NZ for a while and came across this group, they are fucking amazing. I never got a chance to see them and it seems they aren't touring in Europe ever.
Anyone been to see them who could tell me what their gigs are like so I can fume with envy?

Yeah 'love your ways'. I remember a great BBQ on the beach at Piha, after body surfing all day and a dip under a water fall up the hill. Great tune, especially the ragga style lyrics at the end, you just can't help dancing....

I love NZ reggae/dub bands, especially with the combo of the beach, the sun and some dancing.

Have you heard of any of the other world-famous-in-nz ones like Trinity Roots, The Black Seeds, Fat Freddy's Drop, Katchafire, The WBC or Zuvaya (sp?)?

im an american, and i got to see them a few times. the first was at wild foods festival in hokitika (one of the finest weekends of my 20 years :)). it was actually 40 bucks to get in, so we went out in the street next to the gate and stood on this big power box thing and were able to see right in over the gates. hundreds of people were dancing in the street and it was fun times

next time they came to uni in christchurch. only 20 bucks, so i went. it was a real small venue, probably only a couple hundred people in a small room. i remember there was like 8 or 9 members of the band, and one was up there just hittin a tambourine. also remember standing next to one of the giant speakers and touching it, it was so basey, my god the base was something. dont really remember the music

to tell you the truth, it wasnt really THAT amazing, so dont feel too bad. there are certainly better acts out there.

best times of my life were the 5 months i spent in N Zed. fuck man i wish i was still there

Cheers frozenmoonbeam, I'll have a look for those on the internet. If that's your sort of stuff, you could do worse than 'Manu Negra'.
