Anyone else still going barefoot in UK?? Must admit the snow was too much when it was on the ground, but have just come back from a long barefoot walk through the slush and mud durin the thaw. My booted friends thought I was mad but it was brill. Off to bed now with feet caked in mud. Happy Christmas to all and happy barefootin in 2010!! Charlie
I 've just had to stop barefooting for now, it's a bit too chilly for me! Boxing day might be OK, it's forecast to be about 5c, which i can do if it stays dry.
Merry Christmas to you all yeah I too conceded defeat with the recent cold snap and stuck the Uggs on. Mind you there was something of a thaw today so I went out wearing flip-flops, nearest and dearest thought I was crazy but I'm back home unscathed,no frostbite and warming up my toosties in front of the open fire is pure heaven
I've just come back from my first proper barefoot winter-walk. It snowed here over the weekend up in Cheshire, then froze hard overnight and there's still a good covering now. It was just freezing on top when I went out, just enought to get a nice crunch. I did wrap up very warm elsewhere, was only out for 10 minutes and did have shoes with me just in case I couldn't handle the cold (it was certainly below 0degC), but once my body got used to what was happening, my feet were fine . So long as I kept the tops and my toes free of snow, I could feel the blood warming my toes up as I walked along. Even if you aren't sure about barefooting in the cold, I recommend you try it - it is very exillarating!!!). Pics are in my album if you wanna see (they're pretty rubbish as it was dark!)
Minus 7 this morning! I tried cold-footing when I was younger but I find it too painful to be enjoyable in this weather. just praying for the summer to arrive
I am a naturist and still walk naked in winter wearing crocks which is nearly barefoot! Ifreally cold wear a very thin shell suit against wind but much more natural than my fellow textile walkers. They get hot climbing hills while I start of cold. If walking with my naturist colleagues the kilt is a nice garment. I do not wear socks and have noticed that cold wet feet are warm but place a wet sock on them and they are bloody freezing! Somerset UK. Love light and warm feet
I do at times; depends on how cold the floor is! The last couple of days have been beautiful - -4 or 5 but no wind, so was a lovely crisp day.
I covered up outdoors (still barefoot in indoor shopping centres / supermarkets etc) a few weeks ago, but I couldn't resist it tonight. Some fresh deep snow has got my bare foot prints in it!!! Managed about 15 mins then had to cover up. The soles are fine, it's just when the snow gets on top of the foot!
Went for an hour long walk tonight. No probs at all and attracted no attention as snow was so deep it covered my feet anyway. A tremendous feeling and I now feel I could barefoot all year round. (I was well wrapped up otherwise though. Think that's the secret!).
Quite; you just have to wrap up. One important thing to remember is how much heat you can lose through your head, so wear a hat! Wrap up well, keep moving, and enjoy that initially weird sensation of feeling frozen ground under your soles while your feet are perfectly warm!!
I thought I'd revive this post after nearly 2 years and I apologise if I'm going over old ground but what's your tolerance threshold to cold weather before conceding defeat and getting the footwear out? I guess I'm asking the question as it's been quite a few years now since I went barefoot right through winter and a mild one's long overdue. For the record I haven't deviated yet although there have a couple of close calls.Surely a barefoot Christmas isn't too much too ask for.
I'm not in the UK, but for me, if it's sunny and above 40°F I'll go BF. If it's not sunny or night I'll usually wear my VFF's or maybe flops if it's below 45° or so.
Wow, Im impressed with you UK barefooters, that is so bloody cold! Down here in Auckland its never below say 12 degrees celsius in winter, for me thats quite comfortable to still be barefoot. Its summer here now and beautifully fine and hot. Never had the experience of barefooting in snow, must put that on my bucket list of things to try!
You don't have to go far to try it! Snowed twice in Christchurch this year. The first time I was actually in the North Island. When I got off the plane in Christchurch I wasn't quite in bare feet. My left leg was in plaster and I was wearing a jandal on the other foot. The look I got when I got to the door of the plane and took my jandal off to hop down the stairs to the snow covered tarmac was awesome. I got about four steps in the snow before I worked out that jandals, crutches and snow don't work, so I went back to barefooting it to the terminal, and then across the open carpark to my car. When it snowed the next time I never even thought about the jandal. Freshly fallen snow and a bare foot is an unreal sensation! The evidence!
you beat me to it barefoot and crutches. Just get yourself down to the South Island in July or August solemum. I went as far as far south as Dunedin and Queenstown that time of year and only the inclement weather meant Milford Sound was off limits and even hardcore Kiwi barefooters were impressed at my refusal to surrender to the elements when many of them had thrown in the towel and covered up.I was rather proud of myself I'll just have to remind myself of this if we have another bout of extreme weather this winter,or am I going soft in my old age after selling my soul to the devil by getting the footwear out as I have in the last few years when the temperature's become too cold for my precious little tootsies
Yes your right! Have only ever been to the South Island in summer with my bf, did a bit of a road trip, barefoot of course! Must admit I'm not a cold weather person, and now poor old Christchurch is having a really tough time after the earthquakes, Im inclined to stay north just at the moment......
Yeah, it still shakes a bit down here, but at least it is warming up a bit. It is getting to the stage where I am going shirtless most of the time now as crutches are fucking hot work, and I use the underarm ones, whch can be a bit hard on the skin at the top of my ribcage where they rub my shirt aginst me. I think I am going to have my leg put back in a cast tomorrow in place of the regular moonboot and non weight bearing yet again so will be 100% reliant on them, so my shirt wearing days are pretty much over for the next few weeks. Trying to stay upright on crutches even bare footed in the liquefaction mud after the earthquake was hard. that stuff was unbelievably slippery. Crutches and snow are a pain in the arse. At least now I can be barefoot, bare chested and take in some sun without the hassle of trying not to fuck my other foot.
