I heard there's gonna be a World Gathering in Mexico in 2012, at some Mayan ruins or something... Is there any truth to this? If so, I'm totally there, that would be insanely cool. In any case I'll see ya all somewhere in Appalachia this summer.

Yupperz tis shapinup 2 b a goodun. There will be family land caravan cominup frm brazil 2 it. & a nice wide river flows almost 2 palenque. So some family will float it. It comes frm guatemala. Many seagoin craft will be there. A place called rio dulce in guatemala is most family friendly harbor. A good rainbotrail 2 start frm wouldbe yuma az gemshow. It goes east 2 quartzsite az from yuma. Qua is generally around xmas yuma may be a bit earlier. But these vary intimes yr 2 yr. Ocala gig post-palenque should be truly stupendous. As boats will be comin bak frm it. The icw runs fairly close 2 ocala nf. A family harbor near ocf should be quite cool.

I talked to a truckdriver who warned me of a cartel war going on just on the other side of the border from brownsville texas, where he lives. He also warned of armed
cartel checkpoints where they shake u down for whatever u got, often including vehicles. I'm planning on going to this one, but I may plan ahead and get an airplane ticket. The city of villahermosa is in the area. It seems like the airport to fly into. Has anyonew else had any direct experience recently with driving thru southeast mexico?

i did it 5 years ago. came in through brownsville. we had no problems, although we were caught by surprise at the 26 k. point where the free trade zone stops. they usually want to inspect your stuff to make sure you calmed what you were supposed to. just don't pull your stash out till after you pass that point. from there down you will see many check points, mostly military, but sometimes it is federalies. they mainly check north bound traffic.
i would suggest not stopping on the town at the boarder across from Brownsville, it is dirty and dangerous, but fine if you just drive through. Tampico is the next town down if you cross in the morning you can make it by dark. it is a pretty decent town.
I drove all the way to Merida in the Yucatan and it was no problem. for flying Merida is also good although expencive there is only one flight direct from the U.S. for like $500
as for driving around here it is no problem, just have a valid licence and keep 500pesos handy for the cops. if you get stopped it is way easier to bribe them with 200 pesos than have the take your licence plate off your vehicle and make you go to the municipal bldg and pay a fine.
and remember Mexicans do not know what turn signals are and lane assignment means nothing to them. If you get in an accident it is always the foreigners fault so buy turiest insurance for you can. you can get it online or at the boarder. if you do not have any and get in an accident they take you to jail till the damages are paid.

Nuevo Progresso is still a good crossing right now. Drive only during the day until you get pretty far south. At night the Zetas and other nasties will be roaming around. Cartels don't like to mess with Americans since it brings in the feds, but kidnapping opportunists lurk everywhere.

Just like in a neighborhood with a lot of crime, read the ques from the people. If you're in a town and it seems too quiet... then move along.

Sounds cool, but going to mexico does NOT sound cool, until they stop being the US' bitches..... legalize and the war ends..... But till then, that's terrifying.

It's quite nice where it's being held at. Mexico is no different than any other Latin American country outside the areas where the cartel wars are going on--the more northern states. The safe way to get there is a flight. I don't know how much it costs now but from Dallas I used to get charter flights for a lot less than the cost of fuel. Heck, cheaper than even driving down to Nuevo progresso and back up to Dallas. Once there I could rent a bug for <$20/day.

    Dear rainbow sisters and brothers

I hope it wont be announce on any facebook... because the last gathering I went to, it was announce on facebook and more than half the people were there for the first time, and so the energy was very low... As they did not know what is the rainbow they invente their own rules on the site. thats how we saw lots of drugs, dogs, agressivity, drainbow not even circling and singing before eating.

    Love to all,

    H

    Love to you all

Hi Heroine, Be hopeful. Maybe the elder Gathers with experience can pass out flyers explaining how to preserve the wonderful Rainbow scene. Thats kind of how I learned. I saw flyers at concerts with a note about Rainbow then when I went to a gathering I learned from those around me. If I littered I'd be lovingly admonished. I learned about karma, helping, and how to be a part of something larger then myself. I've carried those lessons thru life and been blessed exponentially. Now why cant my own teenage son's learn these things! lol

Of course brother, but passing the message from mouth to mouth, taking time to explain, is something else than announce on facebook.

We experience it in France. I told about rainbow to a girl who really wanted to come, but said she is a smoker, and what it is that perscution about the smokers : She would do what she wants !
I said it is not the purpose of the rainbow and she became agressiv. Then came a friend of her, used to come to the gatherings. he entered in the discussion and said : There is no problem with you smoking if you want or need to smoke, it is just that those gathering are made to experience what it is to relate with our brothers and sisters without drugs. it is just to be taken as an experience. And then, explaining that himself, alcoholic and smoker, could notice that receiving all that love from his brothers and sisters, he could easily let go of his addicts. fantastic experience of growing, in love.
And then she said : Ah yeahhhhh. Cool !
So, it took us 3 minutes to connect with a new potentiel rainbow sister of the gatherings.
Throught facebook, she would have come, like the thousands I saw in Portugal, all smoking... and then saying : I smoke if I want, anyway everybody smoke.

And all the more (but maybe more tipicaly french), as soon as they are 1 hour in the gatherings, they KNOW ! and can teach what rainbow is to the one who just arrived...!!!

All the very best for all of us !

    H
