I just thought about it and I think there is way to much super big super market chains. I remember like 10 years ago my town had lots of local owned independent owned super markets and they are all gone now driven away by the big chains.
The big chain stores ran the independents out with lower prices...... People get what they ask for, (lower prices) even when it's not good for them (lower quality and service) It's not just grocery stores..... Look at what Walmart has done.
if a mass amount of people want local markets back they can make them come back though. you just need a dude who has gone to college and knows how to start a business have him open his local market and have his followers buy from his store. There seems to be lots of people against these chains and the only way to stop them is to stop buying from them and switch to local owned markets. If the local market business owner has enough followers who don't support chains then he will have plenty of business to keep him operating. In my town there is like 8 different big chains that are all always crowded. and I live in california. there is no way the chains could have lower prices than the local farmers who grow fruits and vegetables around here. plus there are milk farmers here and cattle farmers and chicken farmers so yeah I think if it is done right the local markets could have lower prices and drive chains out even if everything is made locally. sure chains with always have lowers prices on imported stuff but they can't beat local stuff.
That is why it is great to live in a town where there are laws against chain stores of all kinds. Seriously, it is awesome and that is really one of the reasons why I am still living here. Walmart keeps trying to force its way into the town next door though, but we will continue to be strong and to resist. If one does open people are going to boycott it anyway and probably form a riot.
Yeah. i actually started feeling sorry for some of the chain grocery stores when Wal-Mart started carrying food. I miss the Commisary from my army days though.
its annoying cus of how at all chains you must apply online, all chains have stupid rules and managers who act like robots, whenever I am deep in the country and shop at some local market that is not some big mass spread out one I always feel more calm. It feels like the workers there are actually humans. like people who actually act normal. I worked at a chain once and I can't work that kind of job ever again having to act all fake and stuff. I hate that. the manager was so strict and annoying about following company policy. screw those rules relax and be real. not keeping it real is stupid in my opinion. plus when a local market is operated u don't need a degree to get higher up positions. a lot of these local markets just train their trusted employees how to do the higher up stuff and how to manage. its chill when you just have some nice person train you hands on how to be a manager without having to go get some college degree. plus there is not set prices for each position the owner controls everything.
I dont remember my city every having anything but chain stores, and I've lived here my whole life. It has a couple of discount stores that are locally owned but they don't sell quality food; they mainly sell dented cans that came from chain stores. It does suck. I would love to walk into a store where all the employees were real, all the fruits and veggies were locally grown, and most of the canned foods were manufactured locally. I do a lot of my grocery shopping at little ethnic markets. There are a ton of those around here.
