I show my support for my favorite artists by paying for their music. That's not to say that I don't occasionally copy a friend's disc, but I'd say I've paid for 95% of my music.

I don't really care if other people get all their music for free. I figure at least I'm doing my part to give the artist a little something for making my life better.

The only stuff I download and burn is the people I listen to who are dead and don't even own the rights to their songs anymore...like the Beatles. Michael Jackson owns the rights to a ton of their songs...come on, what would Jacko do with even more money? He's scary enough already...

Most of the artists I dig support it, I mean, Bob Dylan and Beck have links right on their official website to places to get bootlegs and free Mp3's.

The only people that are getting screwed on it are the virtual myriad of middle-men that are basically responsible to the downfall of popular music. The suits and what-not. Nuts to them. The actual artists and recording staff who work their asses off putting their heart and soul onto a format you can groove to on your headphones make about 75 cents an album. That's 75 cents for the band to split up.

Go to the shows, that's where the artist's meal tickets are coming from. Merchindising is where the suits are getting their money from, and apparently they see the album itself as merely merchandising to be lumped together with posters and t-shirts.

i burn Mixes for driving around and stuff, but yeah i download LOTS of music from the internet cause i have an iPod and i can just put the music straight onto the ipod from my computer. so i dont really use cd's much anymore. but if its a cd i REALLY like (i.e. any floyd album) i'll buy the actual album. plus i am broke, so gimme a break ;)

    Fuck it.
    Download it all.
The bands get paid upfront for their music.
The record companies are the ones who get jipped.

    hmm...

everyday in music business class we are STRONGLY encouraged not to burn or download music, but i gotta say at least %50 of my CD collection is made from burning CDs, whether they were downloaded or just burned from a friend's CD.

Even if I was rich I don't think I'd have enough money to buy all the CD's I want.

I buy all of my music. I have only ever downloaded a few songs, and those are ones that I have on vinyl and wanted an MP3 copy of.

I don't buy music because I care about the record companies, I buy it because I want it. I like the official CD artwork and pamphlets. I try to buy even obscure things, too. I've even paid up to thirty dollars to get obscure albums. I don't mind... I see it as a kind of hobby. I'm proud of my music collection, and I just don't see how you could be proud of a bunch of CD-R's.

(I bought all six of my Syd Barrett albums, too. ;) )

Well, you can't always get what you want...

That's what you say, anything is in reach if you're willing to do things for it.
