Either Marcy Playground's "Sex and Candy" or Presidents of the United States of Amerca's - "lump" I chose those two because the bands are both great and have alot of good tunes under their belts, too bad they got pigeionholed like that. ...barbie girl makes me kill people.
I agree... It's sad that PUSA didn't do better. I really like We're Not Gonna Make It.... too bad they're right
I did just say that Jimi reached number 4 on the UK charts with both "Hey Joe" and "Purple Haze" before coming to America, but hey, maybe ya cant read....
maybe not in the UK, but here in the US he is technically a one hit wonder. and IM sure there are alot of one hit wonders here that had more success in the UK or germany or france. or anywhere else in europe. there are alot of british one hit wonders (for instance, A flock of seagulls, Big Country, the proclaimers, etc etc). and IM sure they had more hits in the UK. I know big country was more prominent in the UK than here. but still, for the US markets they were one hit wonders. and that includes Jimi Hendrix.
the safety dance was by men in hats, not men at work. Men at work was an aussie two hit wonder. "who can it be now" and "down under" were their hits.
they are not retarded. If anyone watched that one hit wonder countdown, they mentioned jimi hendrix and grateful dead because they wanted to mention, technically they are one hit wonders because they only had one single to make it to the top 40. Which constitutes most of the one hit wonders on the countdown. They also mentioned (what the original poster didnt mention) was that they arent true one hit wonders. both of the bands had a huge catalogue of great songs, and very large fan bases, but technically speaking, they are a one hit wonder. There is nothing wrong with that. There are quite many bands that didnt even crack into the top 40, doesnt necessarily make them bad, does it?? and you know what happens when a band usually gets that hit record, dontcha?? they usually break up after that. vh1 , nor anyone else here was comparing hendrix and the grateful dead to barbie girl or sir mix alot. you people are taking things out of context.
I don't see why you cannot count the UK charts. You make it seem like the US charts are the only ones that count. If a song makes it to #4 on the UK charts, it's a hit. That's it.
yeah its a hit in the UK!!! not the US!! thats all IM saying. and that was all that countdown was about, it was one hit wonders of the US. there were alot of bands from the UK that were very popular in europe, but not here, but by our market, they werent hit makers, got it??? there are alot of bands that are more popular in the UK than the US. its a different market. house and techno are so popular there in europe, so I guess if a techno band has a couple of hits in say, germany, that the people in the US should consider them a good band, because germany thinks so?? hell, germany likes david hasselhoff, but I guess by your deduction, america does too! and should be considered a great performer/singer/actor, because hell, germany loves him. and he has had some hits in germany, so I guess in america he is considered a great hit maker. seriously though, its two completely different markets.
I must also state, the reason why hendrix was so popular in the UK was he had a british manager, the rest of his band was british, and the brits love to see/hear a black guy play the blues. and, of course, he was promoted differently there in the UK.
every one knows trex, right??? there is a perfect example of a one hit wonder in the US, but in the UK he is extremely popular, had 20 or so top 40 hits. but I guess because he was so popular in the UK, the US shouldnt consider him a one hit wonder.
As madcrappie states, we're talking about the US top 40. But hey, not a big deal, I was actually saying that I liked them. I'm glad Jimi got more Public recognition over in the the UK, but maybe I didn't know that since I can't read. Seem to be writing okay. Hmm, that's funny, I thought the two went together. Maybe "ya cant" spell.
Thanks for the info. I knew they were men doing something. And I do also like those two hits by Men At Work.
