    ....back on topic....

the daughter(or granddaughter idk) of Sam Walton was kicked out of Mizzou because she was cheating on tests/classes - the Walton name was removed from buildings named after them because of their donations.

not only are they filthy stinking rich, they are dumb and lazy (go figure - look at what they market and who they market to)

Walmart encourages their employees to apply for food stamps so they can get by on the low pay, and they they have more employees useing them then any other company in the world. When someone is working and still can not buy food on their salary that is a problem.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Plus they can qualify for most other welfare. The taxpayers are subsidizing Walmart. Why they haven't unionized baffles me.

Having no personal knowledge of encouragement to apply for food stamps or other welfare benefit, I do not doubt the accuracy of the assertion. However, other circumstancs, such as number of dependents and gross pay (directly related to hours worked) are determining factors insofar as eligibility is concerned.

While not in any sense defending Walmart's treatment of employees nor it's marketing/business tactics, it should be noted that we Americans, as a people, have contributed to Walmart's success and their ability to implement many of their policies and business practices by our demand for cheaper and cheaper goods and the so-called "convenience" of the "super centers".

Walmart's misdeeds, imho, include far more than just mistreatment of employees ("associates"). As I understand it, the list of bankrupted suppliers (as the result of Walmart's payment delays) is quite long. Then, there's the damage to or elimination of the mom and pop operations that were once the backbone of local economies.

When we realize that many of our own actions enable corporate misdeeds and learn to modify our behaviour (spending habits) accordingly, we'll have far fewer problems of the sort without more regulation and the resulting bigger government.

I avoid Walmart like the plague and wish everyone would.

I never shop in those shit-holes either. I'd rather pay more to a small biz than enrich those arkies any more than they are. Capitalism is way out of whack--everyone (almost) knows it and yet we keep buying the crap that's offered.

Exactly! The experience of buying from a small business is much more enjoyable for any number of reasons -- a more personal level of service, superior product knowledge (usually), and a general appreciation of your patronage.

As I see it, the term "capitalism" is too broadly applied to what is really corporatism -- a completely different animal. And... we keep buying the inferior / imported goods without regard for the consequence -- even as it stares us in the face.
