I have said elsewhere that for this movement to grow into a social revolution that it needs to leave the Internet and develop new mediums of communication. I stand by that comment and even more so today. I'm trying to warn everyone that they are playing with fire. My hopes rest for peaceful social revolution but I only see it ending in violence if today's youth don't find other methods.

Please look at the following pages.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NarusInsight

"A single NarusInsight machine can monitor traffic equal to the maximum capacity (10 Gbit/s) of around 39,000 DSL lines or 195,000 telephone modems. But, in practical terms, since individual internet connections are not continually filled to capacity, the 10 Gbit/s capacity of one NarusInsight installation enables it to monitor the combined traffic of several million broadband users.

According to a company press release, the latest version of NarusInsight Intercept Suite (NIS) is "the industry's only network traffic intelligence system that supports real-time precision targeting, capturing and reconstruction of webmail traffic... including Google Gmail, MSN Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, and Gawab Mail (English and Arabic versions)." [11]

It can also perform semantic analysis of the same traffic as it is happening, in other words analyze the content, meaning, structure and significance of traffic in real time. The exact use of this data is not fully documented, as the public is not authorized to see what types of activities and ideas are being monitored

"the NSA is authorized by executive order to monitor, without search warrants, phone calls, Internet activity (Web, e-mail, etc.), text messaging, and other communication involving any party believed by the NSA to be outside the U.S., even if the other end of the communication lies within the U.S. Critics, however, claimed that it was in an effort to attempt to silence critics of the Bush Administration and their handling of several hot button issues during its tenure. The Obama Administration has continued using these methods"

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSA_warrantless_surveillance_controversy

"Trailblazer was a United States National Security Agency (NSA) program intended to analyze data carried on communications networks like the internet. It was able to track communication methods such as cell phones and e-mail.

    [...]

Whistleblowing : In 2005, President George W. Bush ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to find whoever had disclosed information about the NSA electronic surveillance program and its disclosure in the New York Times. Eventually this investigation led to the people who had filed the 2002 DoD Inspector General request, even though they had nothing to do with the New York Times disclosure. In 2007, the houses of Roark, Binney, and Wiebe were raided by armed FBI agents. According to Mayer, Binney claims the FBI pointed guns at the heads of himself and his wife. Wiebe said it reminded him of the Soviet Union.[3][17] None of these people were ever charged with any crime. Drake was raided in November 2007 and his computers and documents were confiscated

"The Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) requires that all U.S. telecommunications companies modify their equipment to allow easy wiretapping of telephone, VoIP, and broadband internet traffic.

Billions of dollars per year are spent, by agencies such as the Information Awareness Office, National Security Agency, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to develop, purchase, implement, and operate systems such as Carnivore, ECHELON, and NarusInsight to intercept and analyze the immense amount of data that traverses the Internet and telephone system every day

There are many other better offline sources for information. I've only posted Wikipedia pages for ease of the average Internet user. And my purpose here is to make the young people think.

Once again I ask that today's youth please consider your use of the Internet as an vehicule for social change. At the very least please discuss the problems before quickly dismissing them.

Please pass and discuss this with users on other sites. Afterall I'm an old man the future that lies ahead is not mine. It is yours.

Yeah but the Occupy Movement is transparent anyway. There's nothing to hide.

That is either the most niave or the most short-sighted comment I have ever had the misfortune of having to read and hear over and over again. Speaking as a lawyer, if people only knew just how dangerous that line of thinking really is.

    But of course they don't.

    So good luck to you.

Attitudes like this won't help your cause.

With the indefinite detention bill being passed.a bill to censor the internet trying to be passed, shouldn't say trying cuz they will get it signed.you really should think about this.why do you think they are creating these new bills all of a sudden? It ain't to catch terrorists.you think there is nothing to hide but in reality there is plenty to hide, just haven't figured out what yet.and when you do figure it out it may be too late.

I see a lot of finger pointing from someone who seems to be outside the movement. If that's the case, you don't need to be commenting in the Occupy Movement section. Please read the "sticky" above for posting guidelines pertaining to this section of the forum. Thank you.

Finger pointing? Why cuz I used the word "you"? Excuse me for not being very good at wording things.but you are the one that's shooting down a good solid piece of advice.

The internet is not a safe place.

All of us have to decide what level of fear and paranoia we wish to be controlled by.

For myself, I choose to not be afraid to openly discuss the Occupy Movement in this forum.

The day I fear posting an opinion or communicating an idea on the internet in the United States is the day I know that this nation has failed completely. They can take me away, imprison me, execute me. I don't want to live, if the supposed bright center of the free world and free speech is or has become a lie, so be it. There's nothing more they can take from me that matters. I'll run my mouth and call out every injustice and example of hypocrisy and every abuse this government perpetrates against me or anyone else. They'll have to kill me to silence me. That's how I feel. There isn't a person or group on earth that I'll allow to intimidate me, to bully me into silence. If you care about the fate of this nation and if you care about your own liberty - you won't allow yourself to be silenced either.

There are far less condescending ways of getting your point across. If you are going to ridicule the people supporting this movement then you can stay out of this forum.
