Would you give up the police state for more personal freedom?

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the notion of giving up police departments and their perceived "protection" for greater freedom.

Do you think that people in America are too much of a sissy or psychotic to do without police yet act responsibly if they were gone?

I mean, for most people, police only arrive after you're already robbed or assaulted and although they have the resources to sometimes find the criminal after the fact, they tend to treat everyone they meat nowdays as criminals or make a criminal out of you for the monetary gain of the system they serve.

Ask yourself if you would only like a police force that acted they way you want? Would that be fair to others or what if someone got the police force they desired to your detriment?

Would you be willing to not act like a neighborhood tyrant if the police were gone or do you distrust your neighbors too much to do without a police force that you might say is unfair?

Do you think you would be better off in your neighbohood if the police were gone and if so, describe the characteristics of your neighborhood.

Would you travel long distances away from home like people do today if a civil police force was gone or not uniform under national laws?

You can respond to any or all questions. Maybe even add some other thought.

    Peace to you all

I don't particularly care for the cop-like mentality, but their existance keeps the criminal element from running rampant over the rest of us. The meth heads steal a lot around here and I don't doubt that if there were no police it would be much worse. Not to mention the hard core gangs. So,I guess they are a necessary bunch of pricks.

I have no use for police..... I have two large dogs and everybody knows it. Not because they are loud or threatening, but because I walk them and they are very well behaved guard dogs. They demand more respect than the local police farce.......

But hey, if there were no Cop's we could have beefier home defense systems and personal defense equipment would go unregulated.

I would make a fortune in toilet paper and virgins on gauntlet styled crossbows. :cheers2:

If people could act morally without any perceived social consequence, I would. The police don't really stop crime, but they're this social threat that keeps many people from doing things that they'd otherwise do if the threat of arrest and prosecution weren't there. I see the way people act during systematic decay, like in Africa or France in the 1790's, and its just scary. I would like people to live free without police, but I just don't think people are spiritually evolved enough to handle that. True freedom, in my view, comes from self control, but not enough people have it. So, we try to patch it up with government restraint. The only problem is the people in government don't necessarily have restraint and can be criminals their selves. That's why its our job to be active in politics and try to put someone moral in office. If we don't actively fight for that, some snake will, no doubt, fill the void. Its ultimately our job, though, to try to outgrow the need for government by working on our selves and trying to treat our families and people we interact with in our day to day lives rightly. The trick isn't so much treating people right who treat you right. That's easy. The trick is treating people right who don't return the same favor to you. If we can learn how to do this without becoming cynical and angry at all the external factors, then we can outgrow the need for government and hierarchy in general.

Simple proof of this is just the way people drive..... no cops in sight F*** the speed limit, full speed ahead! As soon as they see a cop, 10mph under the speed limit. Pisses me off. You know, it's not that difficult to just do the speed limit.

As I said this is a simple proof. Given no over site or threat of retribution, how many "law abiding" citizens would pay for their items at the store??? Or just load up and walk out....

There's a big difference between having a police force and being under a police state. I don't believe that society would function correctly without police, and there are a lot of things that police are necessary for. The problem we have is that the laws in this country have evolved over time from being against things that are inherently bad and should be illegal, to whatever the powers who be feel like making illegal at any point in time. Law's are intended to be governed by very basic moral ideas of what is and is not wrong. Murder is wrong. Theft is wrong. There a quite a lot of things that every society throughout history has outlawed, and these things very well should be outlawed and these laws enforced. The problem is that over time governments have become increasingly adept at manipulating the population through propaganda into believing that things should be illegal which have no inherent badness to require that. Drugs are not inherently bad. Speeding is not inherently bad. Not wearing a seat belt is not inherently bad for god's sake. If the founding father's could see some of the ridiculous shit that people are subject to legal action for these days they would be appalled. The constitution was written with the intents of preserving freedom from the attempts of government to limit it, and out government has been very successful in finding ridiculous loopholes which allow them to do very that, limit our freedom. Every law is a limit on freedom. Some are necessary, but only the most severe things actually deserve to be limited. The things that should be illegal are crimes whether the law thinks so or not. Governments have decided to make a bunch of things that aren't crimes into them, in order to limit our freedom, creating a police state. So yes, we could live without the police state that we live in. We deserve to have the utmost freedom, but we could not live without any kind of police force because people are not inherently good, and some will always commit those crimes that are inherently crimes.

No, I like the local Force, but we're a small town and everyone knows the local PD. If they screwed up someone would tell their mothers.

No, I would prefer a change in legislation and perhaps and alteration in how the police are trained in some ways. I don't particularly like a lot of cops but I certainly see their necessity and happily pay taxes so my township can afford them.
