uh ohz. particularly in the back dome center part. My current strategy is to slowly try and pick out all the dead skin to hopefully get a new clean layer underneath, then to oil it (botanical oil stuff) and not scratch again. Part of me also thinks I should just avoid picking at it all together but it kinda bothers I don't have a completely smooth head/scalp right now. :(

What am I supposed to do? This happen to anyone?

Sounds disgusting, probably best not to pick it.

:( it's not nasty. you can't see it, it's underneath all the hair, but I don't want it there.
Do scabs naturally come off after a long time or is this permanent?

its gross, i had it, sometimes i still get it. wash your hair with some tea tree medicated stuff OR do a tea tree rinse/spray. try to resist picking - hard i know but it makes it worse. let your scalp get as much air as poss (ie, dont wear headbands) and keep doing the tree tree - you can dab it on in the worst places but will probs sting. spray twice a day? see how it goes :)

H & S will fuck your dreads up yo. I have botanical oil currently, don't know if that's strong enough. I'll try to look for tea trea oil, and I'll just wash me hair more often. Fudge, it's gonna take at least a month for this ish to settle I think.

And negative rep and karma to all the asshats who just contributed by saying nothing but 'nasty' in this thread. :sunny::afro:

that is utter crap, don't blame h&s for not rinsing properly

I used glen's coke bottle with a bicarb / h&s combo, every 3 days or so for the last 6 months before i cut, a lot of days just h&s on its own in glen's coke bottle; my head and hair never felt so good and as clean in all the times i've been dread ... when i cut there was f' all residue anywhere

I rinsed for at least twenty minutes in total each time I used it. Still had a crap ton of residue.

Are you saying you DID or DIDNT have residue?

    20 min?

None whatsoever. Did you use it directly or diluted in water? I'm wondering if that could be the problem? If you did it may get yuck over time, not sure; i just used glen's coke bottle idea, so like 2ish l water, some bicarb, I chucked some h&s in, shake it up or stir with a wooden spoon and pour, wash, pour, wash ... then rinse it all out under the shower; like 5+ min

I didn't dilute, that had to have been the problem. Thankfully I learned from my mistakes of the last set. I use t-gel now, though, I'd rather not deal with residues. T-gel seems easier to get out.

Use exfoliating gloves with your shampoo/with water. I had that problem, I and they works great for me ^^

Air out your scalp. Sun probably couldn't hurt.

I personally would wash around the roots with the most concentrated stream you can, like a handheld showerhead up close.

I had this a little bit before, but I sometimes have it without locks. I have not used shampoo or soap on my head in a few months, and it's mostly totally stopped, although I still get some dandruff/chunks, less. My hair is, admittedly, greasy as fuck, because it's not long enough that I can wash the ends without getting soap on my scalp. I think most oil comes off on my towel, which I'm vigorous with. But I'm determined to let my head find it's NATURAL place that it will (presumably) be happy with.

So yeah... be a dirty hippy, it works.

I had the same problem back when I had dreads. I still have it now, though not so bad. Do not pick, it's every so tempting but they will just scab over again, most likely worse. I was unfortunate in being unable to find a suitable scalp-controlling agent for my dreadies, which was one of the factors that lead to their demise. I have however recently discovered issues with my diet that lead to such an issue. I still have dandruff and no medicated (or otherwise) shampoo will alleviate it. I have tried colder showers, nothing. I thought it might be due to moving to a region with dryer climate in the past few years. I then found out I have a Zinc and Magnesium deficiency, which are paramount to healthy skin/scalp. So, get some Omega3 in ya!

    G'day, RooRshack!

Sadly, yes I did. 6 months ago. Which is my poor reason for being absent from HF for so long! They just got to a point where I could not stop scratching and flaking, so they came off. I will however be growing my hair long again, this short hair business frightens me.
