heres our new sight: www.freewebs.com/ethn-eco/ and we would love to hear from anyon on suggestions to make it better!
I just have to say props on the site, I mean WOW! Your vision is definitely right on man. If nothing else I may have to visit and maybe help out or somethin this coming summer
ty erowild as i am once agin getting a lil discouraged not about the land but moreso about the people... i get emails and pms with suggestions on being "morelike" another community and when i check out there sights im dis heartend....9 of 10 of the sites i was suggested to view and try to emulate was governed by a figurehead type leader... shyt i aint nobodies leader, imma carpenter with a vision (not a messiah) and further more why do people ned a leader or a religious protocol....am i asking to much to ask that someone believe how they want to believe.... ok here it is i just figured it out..... heres my propaganda...... if you come and move with us ... your god will love you more! NOT ARRRRGGGGHHH just when i think i surround myself with cool people.... who knows well one thing is for sure the former owner aint giving any refunds so i will go at it anyways alone if need be.... hell i got a good back and 2 good horses and 200 years ago they had less so i know it may take me longer but i will get it done! EROWILD.... i really want you to visit and implement some of your expertise....on permaculture and hydroponics.... pritam/eco-farmer successfully maintain an organic garden in maine so i know its doable.... just that i haven't the knowledge or the time to actual research its implementation... but you on the other is your field of research!
If you get a greenhouse goin up there you can still have fresh yeilds the year round, but have patience maybe time will bring better things, true though people seem to fall behind the leader before they'll fall behind themselves, yet to find the best of men it may take time.
nice one willpower. you got the vision. you got the determination. i'm sure you will find some other interested friends and be successful. and you got ecco farmer who is already doing it on 600 acres to give you some friendly guidance if needed. i don't know how you're finances are looking but if you need some seed money let me know as i'm looking to help get some of these new communities going. do it brother. you'll be an inspiration to many more. peace
ya know, i have also had some stupid responses from people about my vision, but the key is is that you can do it and don't worry about getting people quickly, worry about getting the right people. if i just accepted anyones offer for help then i will have lost the vision, since a lot of people would probably only help until it didn't suit them anymore. so anyway, my point is to not let people bother you so much. it is a slow process to find the right people, i ahve spoken to nearly 50 people about coming into our project and still haven't made any definite descisions about who gets to come, the vibe has to be right my friend. all my respect and i do like your sight, did you check our out? www.co-operativeeffort.com we ahve changed it up a bit and also we have our Natty products on there for sale now. follow YOUR light. -rabbit
thanks rabbit and yes you have a great site...i wish you guys the best of luck with your village... the shawnee say... ah-i-he -o-ha- ine (aw-ee-hay-oh-hah-ee-nay) which means may "your hunt be rich and your lodge warm!" and the ethopian tribesman will say to a neighboring villages chiefs or hunters igziayber yeaster-lin (igg-z-eye-bear easter-lean) which means may" the lord bless you with fortune in your endeavors" both i wish for you!
and the same to you, and i didn't know either so thank you. maybe one day you will come for a visit with us. you are welcome. all our respect, rabbit
hello, I looked into the maine thing a bit more and actually in southern maine the climate is probably quite livable, even with cob, we could grow a hicans, apples, cherries, and walnuts orchard. Check into what USDA zone your land is in get back to me. just look up USDA zone map on yahoo. Peace! I live in mid North Dakota right now, and would certainly never want to set up an permaculture ecosystem in a like climate, yet in southern maine the avg lows are 10-15 degrees higher than they are here.
heya rabbit, Honoring your call for the right people - and do not give in or up on it Within synchronicity all things come within the proper moment - ahh patience, our bane. We been going at this for longer than I care to think about - in the public eye of these forums for over 3 years and both scare away people (huh - like how does anyone know without visiting) and await for the fire of inspiration to initiate the right people into acting - we go ahead with too few - went into as much debt as I can for equipment once the realization set in that we may have to build it before they come - and of course to make matters worse -we (the 3 involved to date) have no intention of remaining but intend to start another and another interspersed with traveling for rejuvenation and finding more sites that call to us. Funny we've got some dynamite land and opportunities for so much but.... Keep the faith Will and rabbit - sooner or later even the masses will be able to see an alternative is needed as Babalon burns into the night.
I actually went ahead and looked into the river, I forgot you specified that in your earlier post and it does seem like at worst we'll be in a 4B zone which I would be able to deal with, my buddy Brandon is gonna take some convincing on the idea but he trusts my judgement and I know he'll be alright with it to. Like I said before though the earliest I can be out to start helping you would be summer 2005, and depending on my success of turning up capitol we could be moving out there as soon as fall 2005 and at latest spring 2006. To be sure, I was bankin for something warmer, yet an enlightened mind cannot be measured against degree's farenheit. Well thats all I got for now I got my latest structure plans under my member pictures now if you want to check it out. I also wanted to reply to your question before which I never get around to, I think once we were drawing ample yeilds from our crops providing shelter for openminded travelers would add an amazingly fulfilling dynamic to our community. I actually in time would hope to construct a taoist monastary, and host monks intrested in cultivating their minds and sharing their wisdom. I just want to say though Im most glad I changed my mind on this one for it was troubling me before, it is rare an instance you find a man with both self-motivation in his mind and humility in his heart, let us lead people to lead themselves, peace!
Just a thought, I really think we are set numberwise the way I see it is we got 3-4 folks for sure so we could at least get like 2 dwellings set up, at least I know the cob structure should only take 90 days, and we could set up a good intern system in each house, and certainly count on some interns wanting to play a more perminant role. The downer is interns would be a strain on our food supply, but I'm not losing any sleep over the idea, my buddy brando gets 800$ a month cause his dad died while he was young, and he's covering any along the way costs on this, Im covering all the initial investment. I figure once we are set up though that 10 dollars a day from each intern should definitely help our community funds for upkeep costs, while at the same time offering ideal terms for expansion.
that's alright, don't keep me waiting forever though, for this dream is my life u know though it may not seem like it for there is so little I can do now besides plan and learn, I got that 578 page guide to permaculture for temperate climates coming in the mail. One last question to toss at you though, are there any nut trees on the land, for most saplings you can buy will take about 6 years to produce their first yeilds.
