Hey metalheads, I sought for a decent Mastodon thread to no avail...thus having to create one. (All the others dated back to '05 and '06). With the release of their awesome new album 'The Hunter' (September 2011)...I think this band needs it's own discussion thread.

I am absolutely amazed by this album. Some reviewers and critics would claim it to be 'too clean'...taking away from their gritty signature style...but I love it. I know a great album when I don't have to skip through any tracks. 'The Hunter' is definitely one of these albums...and now being spun over and over again for me. IMO I feel this album is their most progressive and accessible...

So let's give this band the respect it deserves. Post photos, news, guitar tabs, videos ...etc. here, and give your opinion. Love the new album? Love or hate the band? Never heard of em?

"too clean" all the dirt went with Blood Mountain, and most of it with Leviathan.

Not complaining. I got into Mastodon with Remission but only heard a few songs from Blood Mountain, Crack the Skye. I liked what I heard from Blood Mountain a lot. I think they have a cool new sound going. I've only heard Curl of the Burl from the new album. It's an alright rock song, I could see it growing on me.

I finally looked it up and for me the first listen was a disappointment. I've listened to their former albums and saw them live so I guess this wasn't what I expected to hear. Too clean? Maybe! It's just at first instance, perhaps it takes a few spins.

I enjoy 'the Hunter' but definitely favor their older conceptual albums quite a bit more. I'll listen to it more and see if it grows on me, too. Gotta give props to an artist for trying out something new and different though.

I have loved Mastodon through every album, Crack the Skye took me a few listens to enjoy, but I love it none the less. The hunter is an amazing album. To clean? Bullshit.
