OK. I cant rant about this in a non-anonymous way because the band that im currently working with will know I'm talking about them. I'm just venting so feel free to ignore this post. If you are in a band, maybe you can learn a thing or 2. Drummers. Learn to play to a metronome. For the love of god, PLEASE learn how to play to a metronome. No, I can't ''edit'' your drums to make a better performance. I can tweak things here and there, but I can't make miracles. Learn how to play your freaking instrument. My job is capturing your performance. This is the only way to make a good record. No I can't make your 300$ sears kit with broken cymbals sound like the last metallica album. You just can't polish a turd. Guitarists. Tune your guitar. Learn how to play it. A guitar is a dynamic instrument. Work on your tone. YOU make it sound good. Again, my job is to capture your performance. Singers. Get over yourselves. No one likes the sound of their own voices. No need to cause a scene every time a take goes wrong. Also, if everyone else is telling you it sounds great, just let it go. It's ok. In short, if you and your band sucks, your record is going to suck. There's no secret there. Again, you can't polish a turd. If you sound like shit when youre playing, youre going to sound like shit on record. And the best part about this, is that when your crappy album comes out and youre not satisfied with the final product, everyone blames the guy who recorded it. SCREW YOU! haha =================== /end rant I still love this stuff and I really hope that one day I'm going to be able to quit my soul sucking job and be able to live off of this. sometimes we just need to vent
Sometimes a rant is good for the soul. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-JyPlVsE-A"]Metronome visual + sound - 100 BPM - YouTube
learn to play your instrument.. lol good advice.. maybe do a one piece recording with a drummer who is used to playing with his band? like only mic the drums and get him in a separate room and just get his band playing thru his headphones so you could get a drums track with or without a metronome?.. do you not have the tech and space to do that kinda thing? if so, im a producer too
I actually made a click track with a rythm guitar for this one. The setback is the guitarist sucks too. This is a band that should have been recorded live off the floor. But then again, this is good experience for them so...
I have a neighbour who thinks he's a good drummer I think I murdered him in my dreams about 100 times by now
Theres alot that goes into that but in my opinion. on the technical side, a drummer that tunes his drums. on the performance side, a drummer that plays loud, consistently, and tight on the creative side, a drummer that knows when to hold back and when to be extravagant. Theres too many drummers out there that just want to be in constant solo mode. sometimes its just time to keep the beat. I could go on, but I wont.
well I mean.. you can polish it but in the end it'll still be a turd... maybe a polished turd is better than an un-polished one,...
