year after year i have become disengaged with christmas, i don t find no more sense in it.my christmas is very empty, who is not celebrating christmas ? it seems to be that the commercial side has swallowed the rest..
I'm not doing anything...... Granted "Christmas" went away a long time ago but I used to celebrate Yule. When I sold my cabin in the mountains 7+ years ago and moved here the whole thing kinda died for me. Now I will go down and have dinner with my Father and sister tomorrow, but that more his deal than me celebrating something.
Christmas was ingrained but like you I long ago seperated my celebration of the season from the Christian beliefs. I do find value in celebrating the Winter Solstice though. Wintertime is very hard for me with it's dreary, cold days and too long nights. It makes complete sense to me why all people through out time have chosen to use lights, fires festivity and cummunion with each other. Winter is tough and the boost to the spirit that these activities provide are worth it to me. I don't follow any religion but I value the Earth as "Mother" (Pachamama) giver of life and comfort. I'm content to have my own celebration at this time. Your Pachamama symbol is beautiful, looks a lot like art work I see in Peru. Is it something you discovered or made yourself? Where ever it came from I like it.
It's a great time to get together with family and friends. Everyone in my immediate family have differing beliefs, but we get together this time of year and really enjoy each others company. We've all grown up and went our different ways. Yet tonight we all got to put our problems and differences aside and not really celebrate anything religious really, but celebrate togetherness and sticking it out through these hard times.
Duck, are you celebrating that you aren't celebrating with those that are celebrating not choosing to celebrate Christmas?
Me. Aside from when I was a young child, christmas has always just been a regular day for me. I don't do anything different today than I do any other day of the year.
NO FUCKING WAY When you posted a link in the other Christmas thread, I thought it was going to be that song.
it is true the celebration could be justified by the solstice,in some communes that s what they are celebrating.varapario, the pachamama picture is easy to find: you go to BING IMAGES on the net,you put PACHAMAMA on top, and you will see hundreds of pictures of pachamama..that s where orison finds all his sqirrels, isn t? the christmas squirrel is nice, you must have put the santa hat !tyrsonswood, explain to me what is yule,is it a jewish celebration?well,it looks so that by celebrating christmas,we are celebrating the memories of our childhood, cause for children it is important, and well, if there is a time when people have to come together, why not christmas?a friend just told me she is not understanding why the peace on earth and all the niceness have to happen only once a year and not all year round..i can defend that position too..
i'm celebrating these couple of weeks after midwinter's eve. without the holyrollerism, OR the retail feeding frenzy. its not impossible. a couple of resteraunt meals instead of my usual one pot of noodles and (the and being whatever i happen have in the fridge to go with them)
