The main reason why I joined the Hip Forum page was that it had a Music sub-page under Hip Arts & Culture.

I've always been a Brit Invasion junkie. I think it's going to go down as one of the all time greatest musical genres, ever. In my humble opinion, here's what I think happened to make it so.

It's commonly believed that American musicians stole from R&B, Gospel, early Soul and Rock-a-Billy to craft the rock and roll era. If you don't believe that, just talk to some of the early black artists and composers.

Many of our early R&R stars' popularity was based upon their ability to be a white R&B singer with better back-up and sound quality. USA R&R started getting in the forest so it couldn't see the trees, anymore.

So, what did the Brits do? They Anglicized our music, bringing it up-to-date with western Celtic tradition. Some great brit invasion tunes are still adored by young white teens who inately know that tunes like Pinball Wizard are Celtic anthems.

The biggest white black singer was of course, Elvis. If they would have only left him alone after his "Comeback Night in Black:

On the female side you get JJ. White girls from TX ain't supposed to sing like that:

Then, you get the Beatles converting to Gaelic driven beats:

And, Jagger, with Brit country parody ala Monty Python:

    And, a maturing Clapton:

So, is it coming full circle? Celtic Thunder's Damian: white singing soul ballad on knees to audience's great delight:

Doesn't get any whiter than that.

    What say, folks?

funny how the major majority of people who are apparently 'British' don't call themselves Brits or British.

English, Scottish or Welsh... that's what we say :)

As for Bands from over here

    Joy Division

    Radiohead

    Supergrass

    The Cure

    The Beta Band

The Stone Roses (reunited a month or so ago!!)

    Oasis

    Coldplay

    etc

History of British Rock - Part 4 missing on YouTube.

Maybe there is no Part 4 and the sequence was mixed-up by the poster or there's copyright problems with it.

If you have it or know why it's not on YouTube or in the google data base, feel free to offer-up your knowledge.

    p0ly,

Can you post a few YouTube music links for some of the bands you mentioned in you post?

Sorry about the "British" thing. Our hemisphere hates us for calling ourselves Americans, too. "U.S'ers?." Nah.
