well this may sound like a classic addict thing to say, but how can i get my doctor to give me painkillers? i ACTUALLY do get some wicked back pain, and knee pain from standing or being bent over for more than 2 minutes. at times its really bad, but its not a constant problem. i tried taking some hydromorphone my mom had in my medicine cabinet a week ago and it actually worked, but that soon turned into me just snorting it to get high. as well as making my knees mellow out and my back stop aching, and it does let me get a good nights sleep. i ran out about a week ago, and for the last week ive gotten next to no sleep,(2-4hrs a night) and i can swear that my pain has gotten worse than it was before i started experimenting with painkillers. i tried t3's and ultracet before trying the hydro's, but it did next to nothing. i just want to be able to tell my doctor all of these things and not have him look at me like an addict. i would like to be able to get something that will help my pain and let me function at the same time, but in the evenings be able to help me sleep. can anyone give me any advise that will help me explain all of this to my doctor, and actually get the results i need, and not have my doctor stare at me like a drug addict or some sort of drug seeking teenager. please i need help with this people.

just go get a check up n tell them what u posted ..but if u have no prior history, x rays , n stuff it might not look too goood for u, keep pressin the matter but they'll hafta run some tests n prob get an MRI n shit n if they can't find anything on paper u will get like next 2 nothin but if something flakes u'll get some small stuff until a proper route is determined such as surgery or something like that .. I Think..

if youre wasting it by getting high that means the pain is not great enough to make it a necessity

    just admit youre an addict

When you become addicted to painkillers without any actual pain, you develop a lower tolerance for pain.. Im not saying you don't have any real pain.. but its likely that pain you experience is due to the fact you abuse painkillers

When you do abuse them, your body becomes dependent on opiates to take away pain and make you feel good in general, and when ur body gets so use to it, your body doesn't produce the natural chemicals in your body that make you feel good/take away pain, that's why withdrawals make u feel so shitty.

To get painkillers, you need to have a legit reason for your doctor to prescribe them.. or find a crooked doctor lol ;-)

A lot of it depends on the doctor. Some are way more relaxed with their scripts than others. Start by describing the pain, and tell him you've been taking ibuprofen for awhile and it's not helping much and making your stomach sick and you don't know what to do. You gotta make it sound like you've exhausted all the otc and natural resources like stretching, exercise and massage, tylenol, naproxen...etc."someone gave me vicodin and it helped for an hour or so" Chances are they'll give you hydrocodone first....go with it and just keep going back every month until you've slowly worked up to something that works. I had an mri of my lumbar spine years ago that showed mild degeneration. I told my current dr about it and he never asked for med records or anything. It also depends on your age. Pain meds are hard as hell to get in your 20's...I'm in my 30's now and dr's are less paranoid about scripting them, so it seems....not sure your age but thought I'd throw that in there. Just build a case and you'll get there. Be careful and respect the opiates!

Taking shit out of your moms medicine cabnet? what are you, like 14?

You don't need the shit, they'll give you NSAID's if you go to the doctor.

Of course you think you're in pain since you stopped taking large amounts of a chemical that makes your body impervious to pain (or any other feeling, really.......).

If you're getting high on them that fast, you're not in ANY pain.

And the doc will know you're a wannabe junkie of the future before you finish your first sentence. They will just not give some little kid opiates, that shit is for life, if they give you a script for a condition that they don't expect to go away, they're basically conceding that it's okay for you to die a junkie, because your life is so miserable and will be so short.

Well, you haven't made a very good case here, and I seriously doubt that you'll be able to talk a doctor into prescribing you narcotics. A couple of the things you said in your post really stick out. "... at times its really bad, but its not a constant problem." If it's not a constant problem then you don't need the meds, period. And that's just what your doctor will say. Then you went on to say "...that soon turned into me just snorting it to get high." That kills your credibility entirely, especially since you began your post by saying that "...this may sound like a classic addict thing to say..." Well...yeah. Now I admit that I enjoy some of the effects of the vicoden that I take. But it still doesn't eliminate all of the pain. And to get that prescription required quite a bit of medical evidence in the form of X-rays, MRI's, I don't know how many consults with specialists and a back surgery after all other treatments had failed. So it's not easy to get prescriptions for these kinds of drugs, and from what you said in your post, I really doubt you'll be able to persuade a doctor to prescribe them for you.

hevent been on in a while, and ive just seen some of the nasty comments people have left, chirping me, and i wold just like to clear this up... i didnt start taking shit until the pain got bad enough at times that i HAD to take something, and also, i forgot to mention, i have 3 pins and a plate in my right leg from a break about 3 years ago, so it may be contributing to the pain. i really dont like the vibe i am getting from some you people though, like a certain someone who said i was 14 or something? i think you need to grow up, because it isnt the first time this person has commented on my threads, saying something nasty to me or just being rude. if you dont have any real advice, then dont say anything period. thanks for all the useful comments though. i think il just stick to smoking weed, and taking the odd oc or hydro. it seems to work well enough and i dont have to pay for a perscription all the time.
