cpu freezes all the time...wtf?

i've got windows ME and it freezes sooo much.
anybody know why it does this?

 

Hmmm Windows ME is probably the problem...
I have ME on another hard drive, and it's just completely fucked... What sort of CPU is it?
Oh well, probably the best solution is to get another operating system... Anything but ME...

 

run some spyware checks and virus scans. start with the usual culprits.

 

ME is fucked and whatever you do, DON'T install the Service Pack for it! It's so full of wholes, and bugs, you're likley to Crash completely. Like the man said. Upgrade to XP if you can.

 

heck, with windows ME, you could upgrade to windows 3.1.......

still, run those spyware scans first, and a full virus scan.
maybe a scandisk while you're at it, and a defrag if you're there anyway.

 

what is a good spyware scan to get?

 

i got spybot, it found 20 problems. hopefully that will improve things.

thanks for the link, though i do have spybot, ad-aware and mozilla. i did an online virus scan and it didnt find anything. it also runs scandisk everytime it restarts. and yet the thing still freezes constantly....

i spose all i can do now is get another OS. would you agree?

 

yeah, without being able to see it myself, there's not much else i can think of to suggest. and ME is a giant failure, so if you can xp it, i would. i'm sure some geek around you has a copy.

 

Expunge ME.
Upgrade to XP with a new operating system.

 

I completely agree with those tho have told you to dump ME & upgrade to XP. Get the XP Professional if you can. The Home version gives you hassles if you do any changes to your unit. If you do any hardware upgrades after it you will be happy you got the Pro. version.

 

Better yet, just get linux...

before i try the porn cure i thought i'd do a defrag, i shut all the applications and put it on, but two hours later it is still at 0%...curious...

 

Depending on the size of your hard drive, defrag could take days...

don't use windows defrag. it's a glorified screen saver. i suggest finding a copy of Diskeeper.
