    hello

The occupy battle is doing well at bringing around public awareness. We all need to play a role in getting people listening and getting into action, but I think a lot of people feel a bit lost over what they can be doing to help, especially if they are unable to make it to the city and protest all of the time.

I am currently using my digital video skills to make information videos in youtube, but everyone has different skills.

Basically I think we should devise a list of roles and actions that people can be doing to help the movement.

There's the obvious journalism and blogging roles... But I know there are so many other skills that would come in handy.

Me, I'll be working on supplies once the Occupation in my town gets started, and possibly organizing some things from the shadows. We're concerned about our long-term safety, and being openly a part of the movement might not be so. My husband is a businessman, and he'll be working from the inside of the corporate world to support us: ethical business practices, wealth redistribution, etc.

I don't think that the problem is that people aren't aware… people are definitely aware. The problem is that nobody cares. You can yell at them and bring things to their attention all you want, it's not going to change anything. You can't make someone care unless the problem threatens them directly.

What you could do is start looking into which businesses are playing by the rules and which ones aren't… and then organize boycotts of the ones that aren't. Grow your own food, walk, cycle or take the bus, stop buying so much stuff, stop being such a complete consumer… and then tell others how they can do the same thing.

Propose alternatives that make sense-- that's much easier to buy into than someone screaming out about how everything is shitty and bad.

It starts with the first step. Ppl have to decide what they want.. hell fire.. we all want the same things. To raise our families in clean safe inviroments. To have good food and sanitary water supply.

We want to live in peace and harmony with our brothers and sisters of this planet. We want an education system that teaches children to be honest and helpfull and to read and write without political direction.

We want to choose how we are medically treated and treat ourselves without governmental judgements. We want jobs that pay enough to sustain a family in a comfortable lifestyle.

I know a group that is out there raising funds for the ppl and by the ppl. It's called Farm Aid. The family farm is what holds this country together. We are what this country was founded on.

We are losing the family farms due to the government paying farmers not to farm certain food stuffs and paying others to grow stuff, that vote for them and give them champaign contributions to keep them in power.

My husband has been a farmer all his life, coming from framing ppl. We have had this farm for 23 yrs and with the economy and the weather we have had to call on FARM AID to help us through the rough spots.

They came through like shinning champions and did indeed help us. Not just once but several times over the past few yrs. Farm Aid is Ocupying Farms, our food.

The gov is modifying our food with geneticaly enhanced chemicals in our seeds and iradidateing our meat, poultry and veggies for longer shelf life. This is causing ppl to get sick with desease, mental and physical.

If you are looking for a group to help, Farm Aid is definately helping on all levels of making changes in how ppl live their lives. The controll of their own lives and how they live them without ding in their neighbor.

If we dont stand up, the whole country will fall.

Support FARM AID and you will be helping the ppl and not the politicians...

    Dear ShamelessHeifer ... hello , sister . i , too , am on a family farm . it's
difficult to make sense of the troubles and changes that come , and at the
root is community nonsense . the children have gone and do not
return . all that's left to do is hang on to the land - give it back to the
wild if you have to .

Maybe try the route I am taking: I am using my advanced training (B.S. in Mathematics) to actually ENTER the banking industry and make small strides from within to change things! If more people did that, change would happen quicker.

Yeah, I'm sure that'll be super effective. And you know, maybe we should just all go out and vote. That would make all of these problems go away! :smilielol5:

--Of course, all joking aside, I totally support you. The world needs ethical bankers.

I am a pretty persuasive person and have a track record of changing broken systems already (my work at the University I worked for in the last two years- shifting focus from researching with not giving a damn about effective teaching to starting a culture of effective teaching), so I think it is something work trying.
