I got a call this week from the brother of one the first men killed in my unit in 1966. The man who called came across something I'd written and tracked me down. It was sad talking with him.

Once again I want to say Thank You to you and everybody else for serving our country. I wish I could do it in person.

I dug these fotos out of the closet a few years ago, now days I show them when appropriate. Lately ,Its been the times The VN soldiers to get the honor they earned.

Note: Viet Nam was a Beautiful country before the war. I talked to some who have returned to visit, They cant believe it was the same place from 1967-68.

Theres description of what was going on in these pics in my album. Theres a few more pics also.

wow, i havent seen those in a long time,(press photos) i have a book with those and many more like them in it, as well as my own brought back personally by me. i was there for 18 months, ive never shared alot about that chapter in life, what you see in the colored photo of troop deployment is called "an eagle hop". troop build up by the nva was taking place, we didnt have enough manpower in the entire country to meet it head on, so uncle sam loaded us up 6 to 10 times a day, flew us to somewhere "nam" and we off loaded the choppers, our sole purpose was to make contact with the nva/vc engage with light weapons for a very short period of time, break contact head to the l/z get onboard the chopper fly for about 20 minutes and repete the same thing over all day long for 2 weeks, this was to give the v/c the illusion we had massive man power to meet the troop build up.

im not going to go into this to much because its bringing up some old things i havent felt in a long time, and im short on xanax but if you want to know a little history, look up......vietnam hill 755. if theres a such thing as hell on earth, thats where it was i,ve lived it, and kicked its ass and came home, now it wont go away and i cant make peace with it....sorry to ramble on but im an authority in this venue.

hey vettester what year did lbj get you?, got me early 67. most of my photos burnt in a home fire, i was sad at first then i got past it after finding a box that survived, after thinking about it i kinda wish they had burnt also, but they are history and its cool to share (within reason) with the youth seeking knowledge. i just cant imagine how any of us survived, and how do you explain to the younger generation that "if you think you have it bad you should live your entire life with "ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING". the only thing i can say is times are rough here but it isnt shit compared to what ive seen there.
its a beautiful country especially before 12 years of war, i now got the wonderful news from the v.a. that markers in my lab tests are looking bad, and the dumb ass lab tech ask me if i had any exposure to a/o. i thought for a min and replied yes, not having any idea for sure, but if i dont know she sure hell doesnt know. biopsy done, results pending.

oh well vette, "it dont mean nothin"

Old men forcing young men to do what they are too chicken shit to ever do themselves. And every night they went home to their cushy homes.
Goodbye Nam, goodbye Iraq, goodbye Afganistan. Who next?
    God damn them all!

Ddoright, i with ya on putting war to rest, but we cant lose site that today we have a voluntary military, "force" is a harsh word for volunteers. just an opinion, dont mean to put off negative vibes

It's true we now have a volunteer army, but with very few other options available at home other than the "career" at micky dee's flipping burgers. Sure, they can go to school, rack up a huge debt in school loans first and then flip burgers, or....... I think you get my drift.

Yes the draft was forced, what we have now is more coerced.

actually most of the volunteers are there for the college money associated with the military they volunteer to provide service to, the military has been "voluntary" since at least the late 70's, eventhough the college money "veap" is a free ride, you take a hell of a chance unless you have a crystal ball and your sure some idiot doesnt want to get you killed over a barrel of oil
you can disagree with me on this but for me, if you would have given me a job flippin whoppers or an invitation to go spend the next 2 years doing things that wont ever quit haunting you i would have flipped the whoppers .

in other words, i wouldnt take a million dollars for the expierience, but i wouldnt give ya 10 cents for another one just like it

Oh ... I really like that placard.

"No Vietnamese ever called me ******"

Sums it up very succinctly, doesn't it!

thats at the time he decided to be muhammad ali, arguably the greatest boxer of the 20th century, i remember him saying it on television when he refused to report for military duty and was arrested.....at the time his response was met with mixed reviews, but by god give the man credit he held firm and his point was successfully made. my hero, wish i would have had the guts to do it myself

I wouldn't disagree with you at all about this. I know a lot of guys sign up for the "free collage" too, without realizing what the hell they are actually getting themselves into.

Unfortunate for the rest of us thinking/feeling people on the planet some sign up and actually enjoy this stuff too........ But I guess that type has always existed.

Whenever I see Jane Fonda brought into the discussion by conservatives, I remember quite clearly why it was she went over there. Not because she supported their struggle against the US, but because NOBODY REALLY KNEW the reason we were fighting them (sorta like the way nobody knew the real reasons we invaded Iraq).

Jane went on a "fact finding" mission for all us Americans who didn't believe the bullshit our gov't was telling us about Vietnam. And of course she knew she wouldn't get the truth from our own leaders so she went to North Vietnam to find out THEIR SIDE OF THE STORY.

I never did understand what was wrong with that. Our gov't refused to sit down and negotiate with the North Vietnamese, so Jane sorta represented the PEOPLE of the US who wished NOT TO KILL a fabricated enemy and destroy a country without a valid reason.

And it is because we have never come to terms with the People, like Jane Fonda, that we ended up in Iraq, pretty much doing the same thing as we did in Vietnam. We had a war of Imperialism to benefit American Industries especially the Military and the Oil companies.

And ever since Vietnam, the US has pursued a course of hostilities around the world that pretty much only benefited a few big businesses.

I honor those who went to Vietnam and died for NO GOOD REASON. And those who came back and were left to fend for themselves with PTSD and other long-term illnesses. Such a waste of humanity. And so it continues...
