Okay, I've always had irregular, horribly debilitating periods. Before I went on BC, I could go for 4 months without a cycle then bleed for 10 days straight. It sucked. I went on the Pill for a few years, but then my doctor made me stop because I have a certain form of migraine that could react with them badly. When I went for 7 months after that with no period, the doctor took a look around my body, medical history, and family history, and told me that I inherited PCOS from my mother. Periods may or may not happen, and natural conception is rather unlikely... though my mother tells me that it's not impossible...:2thumbsup:

I started working out again this fall, losing a bit of weight in hopes that my ovaries would start working again. I use the basal temp method to tell me if I've ovulated, and I haven't in a couple of years now. But for the last three months, I've been bleeding for three days at a time, every 15 weeks like clockwork. Both my doctor and a midwife friend of mine agree that it's menstrual blood, though it's not red and I have no PMS whatsoever. I've been bothering my poor doctor too much this year, I had MRSA staph for a few weeks this fall, and I don't want to go unless something's really wrong.

I'm active in MMA training and not trying to breed right now, so irregular cycles I wasn't too worried about. This 2-week stuff's just weird, though. Anyone have anything like this happen before?

  2. Ok, my daughter has just recently been diagnosed with PCOS. She was also informed that it was hereditary but neither me or my other daughter have it. Weird or what? She found out after she was pregnant and the baby had to be delivered early because it wasn't growing properly(thankfully she's fine). She had always had irregular periods (i.e. sometimes many weeks between them) but didn't think much of it. Her periods didn't start again after the birth so she has been given some kind of implant in her arm which I think is birth control and will ensure she has fairly regular cycles. The medics are also saying that her chances of conceiving again are pretty slim but she's decided not to try because she had so many problems with her pregnancy.

It's genetic, but while it affects women it can be carried by the father. I talked to the midwife friend and she says not to worry. I'm not actively trying to breed now, and I'm not at risk for anemia, so the short periods should actually be in my favor.
