In January, 2011 I made a friend in Moscow. He is American, 22 years old, was travelling the city. I had only 3 days time with him, he would buy me ice-cream, cigarettes, ask me to tell family history. I also took him to Rostov. He left at Belorusskaya, I said goodbye but it was very normal, like other people I meet in the past.

9 months later, I had e-mail from him. Suddenly, inviting me to United States. I think it is very kind, but is it strange? He has said will pay for my Visa, Flight and Hotel. So much money, why would he do this? Also, sent gifts for Christmas Holiday (expensive). Most recent, he is sending text-message, 2-3 times a day.

Why? 9 months later? I do not understand this part. Is he kind friend, or I am correct to be suspicious?

Yeah, I'd say you have to get to know him more.

You two should try talking for a few months, learning more about each other, then go from there...

You should of course be open to the people and oppotunities you meet in your life, but you should also take care of yourself. I haven't met him, so I can't say if you are right to be suspicious, he could be a good guy, who just misses you and have enough money to buy you all these things, despide the fact that you don't know each other very well. He could also be.. freaky in love, wanting to buy you. Nobody here can answer that question, but you have the best assumptions, and if you feel that something isn't right, maybe it is so :)

I hope he's just very kind and you things out though! :)

    Peace

I would be. But it sounds like you`ve accepted the gifts, so...it takes two to tango.

Under what circumstances did you meet? If you don`t mind me asking...

    Of course not!

My friend, Dim has building property (Hostel). I was cleaning, to help.

We then met in the kitchen area. He asked for help with Moscow Metro, I was happy to help. I show him main tourist attractions in the day, and we could speak in the night time.

It is a very huge gesture and gift.

If I were I would respectfully decline but try to get to know him better still. Maybe be up front and just let him know you are a little uneasy by such a big gift/trip.

    Never say never tho.

    I would be also.

3 days to get to know him is not enough. Then 9 months with no word. Hmm...!

How long is this trip planned for?

If I were you, I wouldn't go unless I could bring some family, or at least a big body guard (friend).

Or make him bring his family over to meet you in Russia, or something like that.

Sorry, but this sounds too suspicious to me.

I am a very loving/generous person so I always hope that others are just like me but you can never know for sure just exactly what their intentions are. being 20 years old myself, i understand what he is doing (the gifts, texts, etc). but, like you, i am also confused on the 9 month span. if i were you, i'd suggest 'skyping' from time to time (video chatting).. and really getting a feel for this guy.. hope everything works out :)

    Hello,

I don't know, I can smell drama coming up. If the photos you showed are real you are much more matured than him I think. And there is the difference in the social and cultural background. I would stick with a LJBF at a maximum. Oh, and read Boogabaah's latest journal entry ;).

    Regards

Very very strange coming from a guy u barely know.
U wouldnt get on a car with a stranger u've just met, right? Then don't go to a different country with them.

Maybe he was in a relationship for those 9 months, and then it ended and the guy decided he wanted some Russian @ss so he called u..?
Or maybe he was in jail for 9 months.

    Thank You, people for advice.

We have spoken of course, I could not accept the visit. However, we wish to be friends. I have no problem to meet in Moscow (2012) for the May Parade.

    Again, thank You.

He's gotten pregnant and now wants you to come to the US to recognize the child. You should be VERY suspicious.
