I have to give a persuasive speech for my english class. The outline is due on Friday, but I can't decide on a topic. I'm thinking of doing it on affirmative action, the electoral college, all the "anti-terror" laws, or poverty in the U.S. The first two would probably be the ones I could speak the most about, but i just like all the topics. So a little help would be appreciated eace:
There are just so many good topics, I don't know which one to do! Beachball, I love how you phrased that.
i like the topic on poverty, so many avenues to approach the conversation. 1. noboby can deny it 2. unemployeement rate fits the speech 3. minimum wage increases and how they would effect the overall economy in the long and short terms 4.healthcare for those in poverty and have to settle for...well, no healthcare. 5. single parents working multiple jobs 6. jobs are being lost literaly by the millions, their returning by the 100's, now just fyi. it takes 1000 piles of 1000 dollars to equal 1,000,000 dollars, you could work that into an equasion relating to job loss and job return 7. the gov. bailed out all big industry, but i didnt even get a hamburger out of that, but the executives managed to get their bonus, as we continue to live in poverty 8.our (the people) that work received 20 dollars per pay period to stimulate our economy, well i dont know how you fell about that but i know how i feel. i think i could go on for days, i hope thats something along the line of what your lookink for, if you research some of the topics above and cant find the info your specifically looking for i think i can help you, just reply back. as it stands on this very day im pretty well up on the statistics of the above, but it changes often if you do touch on unemployeement, the u.s. is at "for simple math" lets say:10%, we are a country of 307,000,000. those numbers (10%) are in part derived from filings for benefits, however theres about 4% of the 10% that would,nt have a job if you paid the 25 dollars an hour, others have exhausted their benefits and are not counted in the 10% because their no longer applying, they are part of the lost in the shuffel people. i dont think ive said anything that you cant prove in your favor as you give your speech, as for persuasive, speek with passion
This would be a good topic considering the National Defense Authorization Act. You'd be doing a service to your fellow students, and likely your teacher by educating them on this subject.
I'm sure I could go on for days about any number of the subjects, but I ended up choosing why the electoral college should be gotten rid of. They're all pretty good topics though. If I have to give another speech, it'll definitely be on all the freedoms that the people have had to sacrifice in order to "maintain national security".
