Demonstrator Arrested/Charged With Felony For 2" Pocket Knife Michael Buell, 45, was arrested Sunday and initially charged with felony possession of a dagger. Those charges were reduced Tuesday to a misdemeanor. http://www.pasadenastarnews.com/news/ci_19668634#ixzz1iSsNEdgP
Well acquainted with those knife laws out there having done Renne Faire in CA and having to get from point A to point B with swords and side arms..... I'm actually surprised they reduced the charges. I'm not being anti Occupy here, but the laws are on the books and have been on the books for years. They are the result of gang violence throughout SoCal. This is nothing new that the cops cooked up just for this occasion.
Here's more from one source: http://www.lacanadaonline.com/news/tn-626-0103-rose-parade-arrest-concealed-weapon,0,3866994.story Here's some info on knife laws in Cali; http://bikersofamerica.blogspot.com/2011/06/knife-laws-in-california-is-it-legal.html Cali is more strict than Georgia. In Georgia, apparently, you can carry a blade less than 5 inches. http://knifelawsonline.com/knifehome/StateLawsContent/tabid/57/Default.aspx
What are we saying here? Are we suppose to think this person was singled out because he was in the occupy movement? I don't see how police could look into his pockets unless they arrested him first or maybe he was brandishing the weapon?
I was arrested for possessing a Ruger Ranch Rifle at Westlake Plaza in Seattle. That's how you do it, folks. I'm a vagabond and I carry absolutely everything I own on my person at all times, including my rifle. Nice one too, with the Butler Creek folding stock. I was shaken down while trying to point-out a bag-thief who had been preying upon Occupiers for days. Several rucks and purses were missing and once I identified one of the culprits I pointed him out to a group of bicycle Police who had been dispatched to shadow the tent city. They dug-up my juvenile record (I'm 40 years old) to justify disarming me, citing that I was a convicted felon with a history of escape, and threw me in King County Jail for three days, I was then released without any charges... and without my $700 rifle or any rights to it. Apparently, SPD was alarmed that I had them outgunned for several days without their knowledge. That's the last time I ever rat, even on a crackhead who steals from protesters. Next time I'll just take care of it myself, it'll be a lot easier on everyone that way. That's the message I'm getting.
