For a while I wanted to start a martial art but I kept putting it off because I was too embarrassed touching random people and now I am determined as one of my new year's resolutions to do one! But which? I don't want a complicated one because I am mostly wanting to do it for self defence, so that I can feel confident in myself if I face danger, but I don't like Karate or Judo. Any suggestions? :daisy:
if you want self defense, imo Hapkido is great for it, real deal i've heard some people talk about Krav maga and say it's great and used by the army, sounds great, but i never found a gym close to home with Krav maga teachers so i never practiced it, but you might wanna take a look
You might want to check around and see if any of the different disciplines in your area offer a special rate so that you can try a couple of classes and then make up your mind about which one you prefer. We have some in Ottawa that do that.
If your purpose is purely self defense, Krav Maga is the most effecient martial art by far. Israeli self defense training. All about crotch kicking and eye gouging and such. Just youtubed Krav Maga, there are better videos I'm sure. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OBkmSvglUc
A mai tai has rum and lime juice. I6 years of believe you mean Muay Thai. I took 6 years of Muay Thai.
Thanks guys! I remembered that I have to check which Martial Arts Instruction I have around my area first to really have a choice hehe and luckily I found a Muay Thai one! I might try that
Muay Thai is very effecient and useful in tricky situations, more so than many matrial arts. I found that a lot of the things we pracitced in drills were really good with my teacher. Still, some of the stuff which is useful in a ring isn't very effective in a street fight. A jab or a straight kick. Or a high roundhouse. But I'm getting off topic, you'll really enjoy Muay Thai.
She could carry a concealed poison dart frog and throw it on her opponent. The secret is wear gloves. And don't keep the poison dart frog in your trousers.
Lol that's crazy. Hey I found an Aikido Dojo closer to me and I searched some videos on youtube, it looks very flowing and less aggressive. I think that might be more suitable for me, I'm not much of a boxing-type. What do you think?
I would recommend submission grappling/brazilian jui jitsu, and wrestling. Participating in these sports will allow you to develop very strong muscles in every area of your body and give you very good conditioning. It will also teach you several moves to tap people out. you will learn throws, chokes, sweeps, pressure points, how to break limbs. also I would recommend tae-kwon do or karate because you will learn how to kick very effectively in these sports. muay thai is ok but lots of muay thai gyms don't teach very many kicks. muay thai is more about powerful kicks to close the distance so you can box and knee your oppenent. tae-kwon do teaches you to keep distance from you oppenent so it is hard for them to get close to you. I am assuming you a girl. you a girl right? don't worry about putting on muscle because most women don't have enough testosterone in their body to look manly even if they lift weights like a body builder. I recommend grappling most cus by developing grappling skills you will be able to throw and submit men much bigger and stronger than you by using technique. by learning to grapple you will be able to be able to complete flip someone laying on top of you by just technique. muay thai is good but do you have some fight in you? are you prepared to get in the ring and fight? you can only defend yourself if you have fight experience if you wanna use the thai style. you gotta have that fighter ability inside of you.
most of those kind of places are more for fun. lots of those places just steal peoples money. when it comes to a situation a lot of that stuff is just show and does not work. there is no such thing as a sport that is just flowing haha. everything will make you tired and work hard for success. tae-kwon do teaches you to use effective kicks to keep a person distant from you and that sounds best since you sound like you do not want close contact. most tae-kwon do gyms do sparring in full protective gear so you do not risk getting hurt and will be good to get defense skills. judo, submission grappling, tae-kwon do, karate, boxing, wrestling are the ones that actually work.
