I think I'm developed some kind of personality disorder. I can't fucking stand people who use a constant "happy" voice - or that fake ass phone voice. It's always bothered me, but it's getting to the point that I have to remove myself physically from the source.

Also, people who are fucking loud as hell - no matter what they do. I work with this WASPY bitch and she can literally seal an envelope (and I'm not kidding about this) and make it loud enough from across the room that you can't make out a word a person is saying, who is three feet away. She can't close a desk drawer or a cabinet without making a resounding banging noise. She fucking runs up and down the stairs and it sounds like a DEA raid, and she's tiny - it's actually fucking amazing how much noise her tiny frame can make. It's like her body acts like she's furiously pissed off all the time, slamming doors and shit, but she's completely calm and unemotional. It's not like she's got anything terribly urgent to do - she doesn't. I could accomplish everything she does in a week's time, in less than an 8 hour day. Her fucking kids come in to the office sometime, and they are exactly the same way. I want to murder them, all of them. Is this attention seeking behavior on her part, or is she just plain obliviously loud, or am I just an intolerant asshole? I need some perspective. Thanks.

man this is light years away from a personality disorder by any means. in your case at least. she might have one though. you just sound plain annoyed. and nothing wrong with that. i can't stand a bunch of people either. it doesn't make you an asshole. and it isn't intolerance. everyone has the right not to like people they don't like. this contemporary tolerance philosophy shouldn't be taken to the extreme of having to like everyone on the planet.

Lol you're not crazy dude. By the time I read half of that, I was annoyed too. If you have to go through that daily, it is understandable that you would be more sensitive towards it when someone else shows the same qualities.

You're not crazy. Maybe very sensitive to noise, but not crazy. I'm the same way. When I was younger I absolutely could NOT do my homework if people were talking, a TV was on, anything. It's gotten better but sometimes when I'm in the right mood, laugh tracks (you know, the fake laughter from the fake audience) on TV shows just irk me and make me want to punch something. And listening to people eat? Forget it.

big deal. sorry man but just deal with it. that is not bad at all. I am sure I would not mind myself and I know plenty of people who would not mind at all either.

Well thanks, all of you. I guess what bothers me the most is that it bothers me and I can't seem to ignore it. It would be so much easier if I could just not give a shit, but I can't seem to achieve that.

And GlenGlen, right on! The older I get the more this kind of dumb shit annoys me.

Ah i can relate... I find a lot of people to be unnecessarily very loud, and it annoys me to no end. Since i'm a teacher i am lucky enough that i don't have to stay in the same room with all my co-workers, which is great cuz some of them are extremely loud. As for my students, i know from experience that being a quiet person is a solid asset when it comes to teaching.
Have u tried telling people when u think they are too loud? I do it, very kindly, and sometimes they admit that they didn't realize it.

I have the kind of face (manner/visage or whatever) that is apparently innately confrontational. In other words, I've come to the conclusion that I have a "mean" face and whenever I try to suggest to anyone (no matter how kind or gentle I try to go about it) to stop or change what they're doing because I don't like it - well - it almost always yields some kind unpleasant result - unpleasant enough to make me regret saying anything in the first place. I don't mean to imply that I'm gruff or indelicate. I'm not - I just have the face of an villain, I guess.

It's funny that you mentioned being a teacher. After I got my B.A. I took a serious look into getting a primary school teaching certificate and a female friend of mine, who had just finished getting her certificate and was student teaching, discouraged me from trying to become a primary school teacher because she said that my "mean" face would likely make it difficult for me to find a job as a primary school teacher.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion - maybe I'll figure out a way to get my message across without involving my face.

lol aw I'm sorry that u have, i quote, "the face of a villain". Maybe just write "please be quiet" on post-it notes and stick them on people's stuff. jk though
I am sure that having a "mean" face is not a problem for a teacher, at least u'd have instant authority..?
