Hello I’m going to New Zealand on a budget, with a backpack, my trusty pair of boots, a set of walking sticks, no expectations, and Travel Buddy if I can find one. We will begin in Texas and make way to the gulf coast. From there we will hitch a ride across the ocean to New Zealand. No planes, we will mostly hitchhike. about me: age 20, male, I like to Explore new things, and I don’t like living the norm. I’m in it for the adventure and for the friends and people I meet along the way. Now that I have planed for New Zealand, I need a travel partner/ buddy/friend to go with. Someone about my age will do (male or female is OK with me). You've got to have a good mindset and no expectations. If you have your our gear then great! If not you should probably invest in some quality camping and backpacking equipment. you've got to have your own money for food and water, and a passport is a must. I suspect we'll be living off canned foods and water for the duration of the trip.
Im up. but its not very good that you only have one post!? New zealand is definatly coming up on the next few destinations on my list. Ive got all my gear ready for my next adventure. except a tent, their pretty inpractical around north america while backpacking. and cans add way too much wait to a backpack. just some info ive learned from past experience
Well I like your idea and your enthusiasm. I do however think you should save at least some money for emergencys and activites. Such as bungee jumping; which was invented in New Zealand. The idea to hitchhike is totally do able, but requiries finesse as you will have to find a suitable boat that you can work on or pay to take you. I know you have experience as I noticed you have backpacked North America, but New Zealand is really really far away. You said going to texas to start. What about Vancouver BC? I am moving there in two months and apperantly it is the busiest port in Canada. So it would make sense there would be boats heading from there to New Zealand/ Austriala/ Malaysia you could hitch a ride on. When are you planning on going? Secondly I am interested in going to New Zealand as well. Though I have a different approach. I am currently saving for a 33' sailboat so instead of paying for planes all the time I can go where I want, when I want. Backpacking is a fantastic way to see the world, I just did Europe this May, but you are limited by what you can carry. And like you said weight can become an issue. The right gear such as marino wool clothes that dont smell/disperse sweat/ and dry in two hours are a must on the road. Along with lightweight tents/sleeping bag, ground pad ect. I met so many people especially girls on the road who had everthing with them and could barely walk with their packs on. Thankfully I listened to someone who had done the trip before and my pack only weighted 30 pounds.
Every summer you could buy a small sailboat in any port in the world and sail along the coastline. Seeing the best for almost nothing, because in the end you'll sell the boat for about the same amount.
Hi, I have just joined, I live in Wellington, New Zealand and have been tramping (hiking) the back country around here for years, I would be happy to show you around if you are planning to stay in the lower North Island .
