How do I practically seek out a hippy commune or a community of free-spirited people

I want to flourish in the beauty of existence. I want to embrace the absurd and lose myself in this sea of vibrations. I don’t care about money, education or a job.

    I just want to Live.

I feel like I’ve come to accept Life for what it is. No one really knows why anything exists, but here we are, and it’s beautiful at times, scary at others, everything in between, and all in all worth living (for me, anyway). I want to see more.

But I’m tired of society’s games. All my life I’ve been doing things which have been imposed upon me. I’m at university now studying Biology, but truthfully I have no real interest in going to classes. I love learning, however. I can spend entire days reading books, devouring information that I feel like learning in that moment. But the homework, structure and organization that comes with schooling is not for me.

I also don’t want to sell my time to a company in return for a meager salary to simply live in some apartment somewhere and carry out a monotonous, repetitive, soul-crushing existence.

It’s fun to consider just how “far I can fall”. That moment when the apathy finally eats its way through me from the inside. It was probably the drugs, they’ll say. It was probably depression, they’ll say. And I’ll smile and nod. For I’ll have found peace with myself.

I’m the one that’s gonna have to die when it comes time for me to die.

So I’d like to live my life the way I want to.

So I ask you guys, how do I go about the process of finding a commune to live at? I don't know anyone who feels like I do that's not from the Internet. Help me Universe D:

Very groovy. I hear you, and I don't disagree. But... you still have to eat.

You can't join my commune unless you are prepared to work your butt off to put the food on the table.

What's groovier than having a dream is being able to hold onto the dream while dealing competently with reality.

I've heard that even cannibals and would-be suiciders can meet on the 'net, so it doesn't seem to be asking too much for a few hippies to meet up.

If it's not possible, then there's more wrong with the universe than even I previously suspected|!

Of course I'd work hard! This reality is the only thing I know. I'd love to immerse myself in it, play with it, mold it, shape it, use it to better itself, myself, and my community. I'm just at a loss for how to connect with existing communes, hippies and families.

Google "intentional communities"...... it's a collective database. There's not as many "communes" as there used to be but there may be some communal living situations that would fit what you are looking for.

"In space, know one can hear you scream." the first Alien movie.

"In a commune, you're never alone." one of my old sayings.

One of my oldest saying since 1971, "If you want to go to a good party, start one." And it's so very true.

Same is true of communes. First get an apartment with a friend or 2. Not just roommates. Friends. Be the place that all of their and your other friends come an hangout at, because it's the fun place to be. Then out of that group see if others will join in in renting a bigger house for all of you. Then keep being the place. Then get everyone together to rent 2 houses. If your places are near a university, so much the better. If you end up loosing a renter or 2 renters, then you can always fill in the rent void with a student for a couple of months rent. You can even make some cash for yourself by being the manager, if everyone is a flake. You change them extra for your time and energy.

3 houses, 4 house, 5 potato 'ore. You get how it works. BUT You Have To Start. "Dedicate." You make it happen. Put money into the HAT. Get a place.

I have lived in 2 communes back in the day. The Church of the Good Earth, which you can find right here in this forum space, and The Down-home Nasties commune. One for 3 years and one for 8 years (We bought the house).

Things can happen. They can happen quicker and better if you make them happen. Go for it. NETWORK, here, elsewhere on-line, and at the university.

Write me back and tell me how you do. Maybe I'll relocate to your place and move in.

I feel exactly like you do zooted. I just want to live in my art, laugh, swim in the sunlight, sit by the beach, talk about absolutely anything for hours...

In reality, things aren't as simple anymore. So I make goals for myself. I work hard for a bit (still enjoying the little things) and then let loose in a mini getaway to anywhere I want. Freedom and responsibility baby. That's how it works.

It also sounds like you need to find something you love doing. Maybe biology is/not it? Find a passion and go with it. Good things in good things out.

I also agree with you... I would love to live in a commune... Im a free spirted person and the times we live in now its hard to be what you want to... I espically think that money ruins alot of things... Its a controller and we are the one being controlled... I think life would be way better if I lived in a commune with other souls like me... Then I could be at peace of mind for once instead of having to worry how am i going to get this and that paid and stuff like that... I am prepared to work hard and earn my living by doing it naturally and not having to rely on money or the goverment...

Have you thought of "WWOOFing" (Willing Workers On Organic Farms...Google it)? They might or might not be communes but you would gain valuable experience that would enhance your prospects of being accepted into a commune later.
But...jeez, I dunno about communes; I think there are more beautiful ways to live (too much freaking compromise). But that's just my view.
    Good luck with your journey.

Good luck with your search! I too, one day, would love to engage in a community like the one you speak of. For now, I work to survive and get by in main stream cities while keeping in touch with nature as much as possible. Let me know if there is a way of seeing the communities that are "out there", post a link. I'm sure a lot of people would thank you for that.

I've been doing research for a commune to join my self, I want to know what it's really like to live, to truly learn to live, I love working hard to achieve a goal, I also want to live a life of simplicity, and love and kindness, I to wish to join a community of like minded, communities, or commune. My heat yearns for a place where everyone respects one another, love one another and help teach and grow and learn.

Believe me - they are out there. I lived in a true Commune in Northern California for a year and a half - and lived on the periphery of the same community for 5 or so years. I still have contact with folks there and visit occasionally. Now I try to live my life where my local community is my commune - in a sense.
The thing that many folks wanting to live on a commune don't take to heart is that you will most likely be moving into a group of highly individual and self motivated people. This means coming up with game plans and courses of action can often take a lot of talking, planning, meetings and dialogue. The successful communes do this thru a common understanding of respectful and proper communication. This is the real key to living a communal life. Hard work and stepping up are definitely traits that help make a commune experience a good one - but the truly great members are amazing listeners and respectful communicators.
Good luck in your search - and remember - we always need more communes and co-ops. If you don't find one you feel comfortable at - start one. We need more extended families and neighbor communities - :)

start with Rainbow Gatherings, coach surfing etc.

I'm actually working to afford a bigger farm with forest, water and farming. Been thinking about building some kind of eco-village someday. Lot of planning and calculating right now. I would love all to share the work at the farm, no money just kindness and living for today.
