Thatcher imposed policies that ravaged areas like the one I live in, the effects of which are still being felt. Unless you live in such an area, its probably difficult to understand the degree of hate with which she's still regarded by many. She was the midwife of many of the worst aspects of modern British life... sorry, but its difficult to feel much compassion for her now. .
As a person i feel sorry for her , as a politician -no comment , i remember the coal miners strike under her rule
Wether You Love Her Or Hate Her, The Fact Remains She Is A Very Elderly And Frail Lady, So Why Don't We Just Leave Her To Live Her Remaining Years In Peace.... Cheers Glen.
I have limited amounts of sympathy for self obsessed tyranical ex dictators. Why feel sorry for her? How about feeling sorry for one of the other countless millions of frail old people whose functions are failing?
"That bloody woman" indeed! Condescending, arrogant and brutal. The policies of self-focus and looking after the one over others, attacking the trade unions and belittling those of working class led to the society that we are still suffering for now. Funny how when peolpe get older they seem to gather a degree of sympathy; primarily to those who were not there, but for those who lived through it, at the wrong end of the social status - that she encouraged - we will remember!!!
Well, not always - Bin Laden was old and ill too... If anyone wants to really analyse the mark Thatcher has made on the national psyche, just consider the amount of anti-Thatcher music recorded during her time in power... from The Beat to Crass to the Newtown Neurotics, right across the spectrum of the alternative music of the time. These are the "folk music" of their time and give a far better example of how she was regarded at grass-roots level than anything a political journalist or biography writer could hope to portray. I dont recall any pro-Thatcher songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSrLoNm0dT0"]NEWTOWN NEUROTICS - KICK OUT THE TORIES - YouTube Lets kick out the Tories the rulers of this land for they are the enemies of the British working man and it shows, while that bastard is in unemployment grows and it shows, in hospitals, factories and the schools that they've closed. Lets overthrow them soon cant you see what they're trying to do Lets overthrow them soon Cant you see what they're trying to do We'll all be frying soon cant you see what they're trying to do We'll all be frying soon they just abuse their power/ both black and white are being screwed. Don't believe every thing that you read in the press don't believe what you read lets kick Out The Tories NOW! .
If she gets a state funeral I say it should pass through Glasgow, Newcastle, Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool!. Can't understand why people want her dead now though - she did all the evil stuff back in the 80's, her only purpose since then has been to pop up at the odd Tory conference when they need to exploit her image in absence of a real leader.
Nothing sad about seeing her ill and suffering IMO. A real nasty piece of work. A defender of the cancer of modern day Feudalism in Britain. Shame more people didn't see through her sick propaganda and poison. I'm not sure about karma always revisiting you in this life. But maybe thats the nearest we'll see to it with her.. PS she didn't exactly worry about the suffering she caused in our Nat Health Service, or by the evil regimes she supported..
very, very, well put indeed mr. frankenstien! :2thumbsup: over here in the u.s.a, we had our own thatcher, its name was regan. :ack2: just like what thatcher did to the u.k, regan did to the u.s.a... both of them flushed our nations down the toilet! :toilet:
Ronnie boy provided us here with a bit of irony in his last years. He closed the places where mentally ill people could get help/relief and they ended up wandering the streets of California(and other places,I'm sure)acting--well--crazy. That he lost his mind and probably couldn't even wipe his ass, is no reason for sorrow in my book. OK--back to the old crack.
I'm not even from that country, but have heard enough of this.... From domestic to foreign aggression, I don't think she deserves much respect or compassion. I have to say, people always try to separate people from their political careers, as though it's okay to kill, destroy lives, destroy countries, and more, on VAST scales, without personally being responsible. I say no. If you are responsible for wars, class wars, bad policy, and whatever else, the fact that you only did it for votes and power does NOT make it okay, it makes it worse. Basically it's like saying well they can't be blamed because they abused a powerful position, it was only because they where in that position that they did those things. NO, they can and must be blamed! Also, I don't see that it's the article writer's business how often an evil womans children go see her.
Same thing here, under Thatcher. It was called - apparently without a trace of irony - "Care In The Community". .
Especially Liverpool, in the light of recent revelations released from the National archives... Thatcher government toyed with evacuating Liverpool after 1981 riots National Archives files reveal ministerial warning to PM not to spend money on deprived city, saying decline was largely self-inflicted Margaret Thatcher's closest ministers came close to writing off Liverpool in the aftermath of the 1981 inner-city riots and even raised the prospect of its partial evacuation, according to secret cabinet papers released on Friday.
