never have regreted having mine although saying that, designs and skill tecniques seem better nowadays. my first one was done when i was quite young by someone inexperienced which was my mistake, but quickly had that covered up by something bigger and better and only you will know if your at the right time and age for having one done.

I've never heard of anyone regretting it. I know a 80 year old man who has sleeves that are all wrinkled now and he doesn't regret it. When you're old, you're not going to look back and say "Oh, I wish I hadn't done that" you're going to say "I wish I HAD done that because you only live once."

just make sure you see my of the artists work in person. Ask people with a lot of tats where they go. The more research you do into the artist the better.
A 26 year old with a butterfly on her hip doesn't qualify much as a reference.

Just had my first one for my 66th birthday...a leaping hare under a moon. My daughter has many tattoos and the guy who does them is a real artist.

I'm considering a Green Man next.

I was almost 47 when I got my first tat, and I've gotten three more since then, with plans for more ASAP. Never thought I would be the type to get one, but when I found the design that was right for me, I knew it. Now the trouble seems to be what to get next out of the many I want! Good advice posted here: Ask people with a lot of tattoos where they go, and not only check out the tattoo artist's portfolio, but watch them in action to get a sense of how they roll. Make sure any written message to be inked is spelled correctly beforehand, and also make sure the stencil is lined up to your satisfaction before inking begins. Other than that, if it's what YOU really want, go for it!

I don't regret any of mine, although some tattoos I have, I wouldn't get if they weren't there in the first place. I figure if it meant something to you at the time, at the very least it represents a time and place in your life.

When you're gray of hair and short on time, will you really care how your chest looks?

certainly don't and never will regret mine, even though now i'm older and it's faded and blurred a little, the subject was something that meant so much to me at the time and still does and as youve said represents a very special time and place in my life.
what i do regret though is that i was going to get a tat a little while ago that represented one of the happiest times of my life, and i didn't have it inked then. now that that time has passed and is sadly behind me, guess it wouldn't be appropriate now, but i would have loved to have had the visual reminder of that to cherish as the years fade away.

personally, i dont like, how do i say this, the standard tats taken from a book, mine have to be something that i've designed with or without the help of the tat artist that represents something unique and personal to me, and please don't get me wrong some of the designs are simply beautiful and thats if thats what you want then brilliant, it's all down to personal taste anyway.

Chest piece or my rib cage will be the first place I ink then my back then my quads .... I only want symbles of peace or vibrant images of death gushing out of my body .. Picture a beautiful women holding your heart while a demon tears at it from the other side ... A snap shot of the internal battle inside my waste land

The right moment to get ink is when the idea of the pain doesn't phase you. I got one on the inside of my wrist a few months ago. It stung like a bitch but it was so worth it. I love the look of a sick black symbol on my creamy white skin :)

i took my time in getting one. i had known what i wanted to get at least a couple of years before actually having it done. i don't regret it but for me it's only been a few years since then. and i do know to say that your preference can change in a course of a few years. for example i've completely come to loathe larger tattoos in that time. back when i was getting mine i considered getting a bigger one and now i'm glad i didn't. mine is something that describes who i am, an essential part of me. for this reason i don't think i will ever regret it. had it been some star figure or some other random picture chosen just for the sake of getting a tattoo, i probably would regret it by now.
