Well with computers anything you can make can be broken. They have guys just as smart as anonymous on the other end fixing it. Big money buys you a good hacker. Although they did stick it to Sony, they took out PSN for like a month.

DDoS attacks aren't great. They're actually pretty amateur

Granted you weren't in the IRC during #OpMegaUpload you wouldnt know that Anonymous sent out links through twitter and other mirrors.. So at the time of the attack, most of the participants were not secure. Most noobs were hiding behind a free VPN (which by the way leaves a trail). It saddens me and other anonymous members to see all those kids unknowingly walk into a room full of gunfire.

Those not smart enough to attack securely and anonymously will most likely hear a knock on there door some time this week. Along with the infamous white van that will take them away.

Anyways, it was the largest scale attack so I applaud those who participated. Cheers anonymous, lets hope more people will educate themselves before going into cyber-war with top-dogs like The Department of Justice and the FBI.

Well, that's something to think about, isn't it?
Though it's probably smarter to spoof your MAC address and use an outside network in the 1st place... We're not talking about the big boys running six boxes on an attack here, they should be fairly mobile.

Thing is, the newbies outnumber the experienced ones. At the time they sent the link over 9,000 people joined the attack. The link basically did all the work since the attacker only had to leave the window open for the DDoS to commence. All the teenagers and adults who are vaguely familiar with anonymous and might affiliate with them would have clicked the link and helped the illegal act. Those are the people who i am referring to, the kids who walked into a room full of gunfire. It's a shame really but every war has some casualties.

Yeah it is a shame. Even if they did it unintentionally with the LOIC links, the FBI can still confiscate every electronic device they have as well as any storage media. Anything they find they will get them for. We're talking about 5 years for a pirated movie. Few people are as paranoid as me and have everything encrypted and know that nothing on the internet is truly anonymous; there is always a trail for someone with the resources to find it. That's why they do DDoS, because using real servers leaves a huge open trail. But it means thousands of computers confiscated and jail sentences. FBI does hundreds of raids every day. It's nothing to them. We live in crazy times.

They are also not above planting something on confiscated gear if they don't find what they are looking for. Noobs are going to be hurting......

You betcha. That's exactly what they did to my uncle. He just finished serving an 11-year sentence for a pirate f-serve. The FBI actually uploaded child porn onto his public f-serve. They busted his door down early in the morning. They took his comps. Went to the house of his sister that he stayed at a year before and took her comps too. They raided over 70 people in the area that morning.

They let him go on his own recognizance, because the feds know you can't run.

for 2 years he hears nothing. Then he gets a call that they found nothing on the comps and to pick up the computers. The next morning they come to pick him up and the next day he is before a federal magistrate 170 miles away.

We know they uploaded the CP because they said they did it. They claimed he initiated a transfer with them for what he knew to be CP. It was more in the context of a drug deal rather than planting evidence (which it was).

He faced something like 600 years when counting all the charges. So naturally he plead guilty as any sane person who doesn't have millions for a defense would do.

When a government takes down an Internet Locker like MegaUpload after a whole day of internet protesting against the very act, someone had to do something. You can't really get the government to acknowledge you unless you fight fire with fire. If you can't understand that then you are a lost cause.

So far, Anonymous has successfully shuttered the websites belonging to the U.S. Department of Justice, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the Motion Picture Association of America, and Universal Music.

    Quote:
Anonymous boasted today’s events as its “the largest on scale attack ever” at a record of 10 sites in 20 minutes.

Okay, I completely understand the attacks against RIAA, MPAA and Universal, they have done great evil, specifically infringing on free speech in the name of protecting copyright while not offering any other viable way for video content to be enjoyed.

But the Justice Department, while far from perfect can also be a tool for obtaining our own justice against these various companies.
Is this just mindless lashing out against everything?
Why not just shut down the entire Internet forever? That would make the ULTIMATE point!

The bigger the target the more media attention it will gain. Do you even know how a DDoS attack works?? The sites are down for maybe an hour and that's it. We're not trying to prove a point merely trying to expose what others don't see. Government doesn't care for their sites, they pay people to keep those things active. As for media attention, actions against large targets like the FBI and the Department of Justice will surely get on the news and trend throughout the internet. It's all about exposure, don't think for one second these attacks are meant to scare the government. They have enough guns to keep us at bay, it's all about removing the veil covering the eyes of the public masses.

Sometimes we have to remind them that we are a Government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

    They work for us.

That's why "Deepthroat" did as he did because of how high the corruption went. To this day many Conservative pundits saw what he did as treasonous. Goes to show what those pundits are truly made of; corporate material.
