I don't watch the news. I haven't for over 2 years. I don't have cable tv. I don't even have any chanels on my tv.. Not even the basic ones. I have no idea sometimes what's going on in the world unless I read it myself online. Lately I pop into the news apps on my iPod and I have been picking out storeis that are positive and posting them on twitter. But it's a needle in a haystack to find them in all the "bad" news. People are wrapped up in this stuff outside themselves. Things happen evey day why do we think we have to know the details? And even watching the news doesn't give you the whole story.. So what's the point? It's a huge industry.

I avoid TV news but quite enjoy internet and paper news. I feel they give a more complete and less sensational "overview" of current events, trends, etc.

I spend up to several hours a day reading independent journalism in the internet and abut half an hour per day the mass media news to see their reaction to the situation:)

I'm on TV news overload right now. Unless I see things online or people tell me about them I'm kinda clueless. But with the flooding in my area my local news channels were on all day. and I couldn't help but watch. but after a while as things were calming down for the night, they kept repeating themselves. and thats good for people just tuning in, but those awaiting updates coulda started giving the news themselves.

actually one of the news reports was a kitten in the raging flood waters and someone wrote in how the rescued the cat. it was nice to hear that rather than all the devastation going on.

applespark, i like that you try to find good news. its inspiring.

    I'm feel same way.

I'll put the news on once in a while (like now) as background noise. Once I start paying attention, I get angry and hate people.

I really only watch it to get an idea of how the weather is going to be. Overall, I hate news of all sorts...except the funny articles.

TV news is very depressing, because depressing stories are always more interesting. I never used to watch the shit, now I flick it on occasionally - but it's always got the same stories on anyway, so I fail to see the point..

I avoid the news when I can.
The media cant be trusted, they dont no what their talking about, they just repeat what they are told, generally lies.
I know firsthand how manipulative the media can be, anything for a sensationalist story.

I don't avoid the news, just mainstream media. Try to get your information from alternative websites.

The NEWS or NEW S tories, are tales of interest - doesn't mean you have to believe them entirely - though appraisal of events and issues of the day is however, prudent - MeThinks :)

There needs to be a news source for the more intellectual (read: pretentious) of us.

I hate having to filter all the crap on CNN that caters to simpletons, or house-wives.

They broadcasted the funeral of Michael Jackson, and the news ticker said things like :70 dead in German train crash..." as it was happening! News is weird, man.

In addiction to only talking about crap, they also ignore a lot of the issues. I didn't see them talk about SOPA until the Wikipedia black-out.

There are many good, independent and interesting news sources, especially in english!

what I read and watch daily is

net news global: international news in German, French, English and other languages

    outlawjournalism: alternative news

Das Gelbe Forum: alternative German economy forums

    Globalresearch: international alternative news

    Flip The Pyramide: alternative news

    erinnerungs forum: German/English alternative news

to complete (not daily): Russia Today, Press TV, Chinese news

Then some forums about science, geography, weather, astronomy, Fukushima and others
