I'm not much for organization or order but lately I've been trying to reclaim my upstairs. Today I was working on this dresser top thats been a catch all for "deal with it later" shit. This morning I was cleaning up an old pile of papers, photos and general crap that accumulated on it. I came across a camera memory chip from a trip to Peru in '08. 500 pictures I hadn't ever seen. I thought the chip was lost back then and forgot about it. I was totally wiped and half sick when I got back from that trip. Apparently I'd dumped the chip out of my backpack and left it. I had pictures from another camera and never gave it a thought. It sunk to the bottom of the pile and laid there till today. Most of the pictures were of my Peruvian family but there were several shots from Nazca and same of the open air tombs around there. I'll try to post some of them that are interesting. Didn't get many shots of the Lines themselves cause I was too busy looking at them as we flew over. I do have some decent shots of mummies. It hasn't rained there in over a 1000 years and things don't rot, they just dry up. Made my day to revist that time. Anybody else stumble across their own forgotten treasures, cool finds that slipped out of memory and sight?
Adler Universal Typewriter, I found one in my attic, been up there 1million times never seen it. (Large image) (1956), then I open it up and it typed out all by itself "you will die" ..
Old journal entries and doodles are something I constantly find around my living space, and for each bit I find a flood of old memories rushes is. And occasionally, I'll find an old birthday card with some cash still in it
My mom has reel to reel film strips that havent been watched since before I was born. most likely mid to late seventies.. They probably won't get watched until after she dies either.. THat'll be fun as hell to see what it is. (I'm told they are videos of my mother, my brother, and his father on a trip to yosemite and all around the rockies.)
i've heard it said the fastest method is at random. i'm not convinced. first off the starting block of course, potentially at least, but first to arrive at anything useful? not too bloody likely. of course discovering what you didn't already know or suspect, well that's a very different matter, and here of course, it IS at least as possible as any other. discovery usually happens when you're looking for something else, as with the faster then light neutrino's at cern. not looking for anything in particular, but the enjoyment of the not overly familiar, can and does, lead to chancing on all sorts of neat fun wonderful things as well.
I found my brain in an old wooden box one day.... I quickly sealed it back up figuring I would cause some kind of damage otherwise.
I've been tidying up my disorganized mess the past couple days. So far the only things I've discovered are items of clothing that I bought, wore once, and misplaced. Hopefully something more exciting will come along. I recently found old sketch books from high school, which was a laugh.
Yes, recent: We found old war items, and details that did belong to my Grandfather. It was not touched for so much time.
