I would like to know, what is your worst injury and illness in life so far?

My injury: So far, I believe am fortunate to never break a bone. However, I was taking photographs in an Abandoned Factory, first level, the floor was old wood. I crouch to take my photograph, then fell through the wood floor, it happened very fast. It was much worst because I fall into the Basement, possible it was 4 metres high. A huge pile of wood and dirt fell on to me, my Torch Light rolled away, it was very dark I was in shock. Only large bruises, cut hands from this, but still I feel fortunate it was not much more terrible.

My illness: Military exercise, we had fresh water from the stream. I had been drinking the water, we continue up the Mountain when we are told, dead Animals are in the top of the stream. Not so later I was vomiting all of the night, so much I could not breathe. It continued for 2 days time, a very bad time and illness.

I would be interested to hear from other people.

Illness: I had acute liver failure for unknown reasons a few years ago, and was bumped to the top of the transplant list since I was given less than 7 days to live without one. One came in the night before they were going to drill a hole in my head to relieve the pressure.

Injury: Not many, actually, although the surgery from the transplant was hell enough. But the tip of my left middle finger has been sliced open at least a half-dozen times, while I can't recall ever seriously injuring any of my other fingers. It was also broken when I was in 3rd grade. I'm telling you, that finger has bad karma.

injury: i've been lucky. I busted my chin open once and I chipped a bone once.

illness: I went camping when I had a sinus infection (i'm stupid) and it all drained into my lungs and turned into brochitis and made me have an asthma attack (I don't have asthma, I just had the one asthma attack then it never bothered me again) when I was out in the woods. the campfire and the cold air just made it ten times worse and we all had to pack up camp and leave because I couldn't breathe for shit. I passed out for a minute walking up the trail to the car and the doctor told me i was lucky I didnt slip into a coma.

I have never been in any accidents or anything like that...

But dammit I am plagued with UTIs. I have one now. FML.
I've got them ever since I was a kid. It's the only thing I've ever been to the ER for even.

Worst injury: Well, I've had a lot of stitches and been glued up a LOT, but I have to say the time that I stepped on a screw right where my toes meet my foot and it almost went all the way through was the one that the memory of makes me shudder most. It wasn't so much the actual penetration of the screw that hurt as it was the removal of said screw and then recovery. I worked on my feet 8 hours a day then and it took weeks to heal because I just kept standing on it. I also tore up my shoulder at work awhile ago and it took weeks to heal.

Worst illness: Besides food poisoning which just made me feel like I was dying, I got bronchitis pretty much all the time when I was little and I remember being so sick, I couldn't even walk. It was the week of homecoming, we lived across the street from the high school and football field and I remember my mom carrying me to the door and holding me so I could watch the fire. There was lots of talk of taking me to the hospital, but luckily my fever never got quite high enough.

I've been fortunate, though, even those weren't that bad.

I’ve been fortunate so far (knock on wood) just a high-ankle sprain as a teenager when I was playing basketball – that’s about it [IMG]

Oh, I had a stomach virus a couple of months ago, and spread it all around my family. It was constant throwing up for about six days...along with other terrible bodily evacuations. I remember thinking how happy I was that the bathtub was next to the toilet to throw up in while I occupied the throne. (TMI alert)

The first night was also the first time I smoked a Black&Mild, and now I will forever associate the taste and smell with violent sickness.

injury: nothing too serious. i've had no bones broken other than fingers/toes (and nose, but that's not even a bone). i had a concussion once in 4thish grade. i once randomly fainted (i've only fainted twice in my life, and the other time was due to illness) and smashed my eyebrow on a sink, which led to a pretty huge gash that i probably should have gotten stitches for. at some point i did something to my knees so they both randomly swell up and i can barely walk for about 12-48 hours at a time, which happens a couple times a year for no apparent reason. i don't know, i've had a lot of minor injuries but nothing i would actually consider serious.

illness: probably scarlet fever when i was in first or second grade. i got strep throat when i was on vacation visiting family in maryland and it quickly advanced into scarlet fever. i actually missed a substantial amount of school that year, otherwise i always had near perfect attendance. i also had a pretty bad allergic reaction to a bee sting once. normally i'm not that allergic, but this one had the perfect combination of factors to maximize the reaction, and i ended up passing out on the front porch as i was on my way to my mom's car to go to the hospital (ok, maybe i've fainted 3 times if you count that). i came to almost immediately though, and by the time we got to town i was perfectly fine so i was able to convince my mom not to take me into the ER by getting out of the car and dancing for her.

My finger fell off one time. I was being careless at the weight room, index fingers are no match for a 50 lb dumbbell. They put it back on tho.

As far as illnesses go I've been lucky so far.

Injury, well they healed and in the big picture they were just one offs. If I picked one it would be splitting my forehead open as the haze for weeks was not fun but a little scar and it is over. The three weeks I kind of lost were not fun but to be honest three weeks is just that.

Illness would be cancer but also that is within manageable now. So the idiot says and places a jinx. I would rather have not had to deal with it but life is what it is.

Life is just a plain challenge and what we do with that crap is what makes it all right, not what happens on the road to all right.

Motorcylce wrecks had some messy moments but for all round attention getters nothing has beaten Kidney Stones. They really focus you on the here and now. Six or seven rounds over the years. They're kinda like wretched relatives that show and won't take the hint to move on.

Worst injury... hmmm well off the top of my head I think my worst injury was when I'd slipped out of a tree and my leg scraped a nail sticking out of a horse shoe someone had pinned against one of the larger branches. I've got a 25-30cm long scar on my thigh now.

    As for illness? Probably Epilepsy.

My worst injury would be when I was running in the house as a little kid and I tripped and fell on our wood stove and got some really severe burns.

And I guess the worst illness I have had was when I got really severe food poisoning. I really did think I was going to die and I lost a ton of weight.

I've been pretty lucky though so far
